Got this lil' guy in the mail yesterday AM... Initial impressions are 100% positive. It's like a cross between the mini grip and the 940... just perfect. If you're a FRN hater this one is SURE to please... It's quite dense. The EDM (or whatever) finish is really cool. It is a smaller knife yet beefy at the same time... The blade grind is a veeeeery thin hollow... loving it. The in-handle retention of the blade is quite stiffer than any other Axis I've had... which is a good thing. F&F are all Benchmade... I can't think of $60 better spent.

I'm on a mobile device right now so gonna keep it short... YouTube vid to follow in a few weeks! Please feel free to ask any questions about this little guy here!

Sounds good, together with the Nagara the 527 is pretty much the only new benchmade this year I' m interested in:thumbup:

The Barrage isn't to be missed either--especially the large one. I don't typically like AOs...but the lines are sooooooo sweet I just can't help myself!

I have the 527 & 522, and they are the beefiest FRN knives I have ever owned. I can see the difference in construction that BM uses on their black line. The nice thing is that they are beefy, but pretty light, and not terribly bulky. They just feel strong as steel, and pretty much unbreakable. For years, my absolute favorite user has been the Spyderco Native, I think this knife is just as nice an all arounder.

one of the things I like about this one (& grips) is the lack of any finger grooves or any assumption of hand size. Fingers just sit where they're comfortable... nice. The blades on axis knives sit niiiice and deep in the handle, which for many reasons, I appreciate.

How thin is veeeery thin? You think it's good like that? I'm a fan of the Centofante III and 4 for being a super good thin slicer. I often worry about BM's new hollow ground blades as being too fragile.....but I'm pretty sure that my worry is unfounded.

I'd say 3/8-1/2" from the edge is as thin or thinner than a SAK blade, then the hollow grind swoops out to the 1/8" stock... I LOVE IT! Beefy spine with a super thin edge is just what I like... I never abuse a knife, so a grind like this should offer many lifetimes of use and sharpening.

Archman,

Thanks man. How do you like the handle compared to the Mini-Grip? I know that the Mini-Grip is a tad too small for you. You like this much better than the Mini-Grip?

Later bro,
David

I know the aluminum version has the exposed liners, does this one? Had a chance to handle my friend's aluminum-scaled auto Presidio and wow is that knife built like a tank.
thanks,
K

I TOTALLY prefer this one to the mini grip.. NO question. It does have exposed liners. My ONE hit against the knife would be the liners... Looking at the spine, it appears as though BM used two "left" liners... the inside of the left one is smoothed on the inside, where the inside of the right one is not... the right liner is smoothed on the outside of the liner, and it makes F&F look a tad sloppy. I'm guessing it is because they are identical, so the process to make them is as they are the same I stead of mirror images of eachother... no biggie...

For the price it's an attractive piece. Please post pics if you are able.

Pics of the liners, if you can. I hadn't noticed any gaps on the ones I looked at at SHOT but they may have been protos.

I'm also a fan of the Mini Presidio Ultra as well as the full size model. I had a Mini Griptilian a few years ago. I gave it away without ever carrying it due to the short grip. But the Mini Presidio Ultra's handle is just that much longer to allow me to get a full grip and feel secure using the knife.

The blade's not as thin as the Centofante 3 so it's not gonna be a super slicer. Still, it has that sweet thin hollow saber grind on a thicker blade stock for reinforcement.

Nice design all around for a smaller, low profile pocket knife.

Uh-oh...didn't realize the original thread was from 2009.
