Benchmade 527 Mini Presidio

Indeed, the knife is on part with any other of the benchmades.

Quick review!

It's slightly beefier than the mini-griptilian, so it's great for those with slightly bigger hands, but want a 3 inch blade. The hollow grind makes it a pretty sweet slicer. Quick open, quick close like all axis locks. No play in the blade in any direction. No complaints at all, i'd say. 58 dollars is a pretty good price, I think.

Sounds like a solid knife...Is the blade tough, no nonsense, I here hollow ground blades are prone to break easily...

The blade is 440C steel, not 154cm like the mini-griptilian cousins. But I can't really comment on the edge retention yet. My 527 is just as sharp as when I bought it a month ago. As for the toughness, being a hollow grind blade, it feels thin, but again, I havent had any problems with it. Perhaps someone with more experience can comment on that?

If it's any consolation, the sebenza's use a hollow ground blade. But then again, it's S30V steel. *shrug*

I don't know where you heard that, Dan, but there is no truth to it. As for a 440C blade, when properly heat treated as Benchmade always do, you will find it will be a good worker.

I guess when i come down to it..i own 2 mini grips and 2 full size grips..i don;t own anything from the black class..I just want a good solid knife..hoping the BM 527 is that knife..

I'd say you're about "gripped out"! You definitely need some Presidios in there.

I think all the Presidios are awesome knives. I went with the 551 Grip thinking I was much better off with the 154CM steel myself, but I know I will not be happy until I have a Presidio or two.

And "truth be told", the way I use my knives (mostly to open boxes and packages containing more knives! ;) ) the difference between 440C vs. 154CM is insignificant in my usage. Hard and heavy-use knife guys may feel differently about the steels, but I'm sure I'd be equally happy with either steel for my light usage.

The 527 is definitely, no doubt well worth the 57 bucks! Enjoy that beauty.
