Benchmade 527 pivot stuck (solved)

Hey, guys. Need some help figuring something out.

I have a Benchmade 527 which needs a bit of cleaning. Never disassembled a knife before, but from looking at videos on YouTube it seems easy enough. Didn't take long to run into a problem though. After removing the pivot screw I found that the pivot is stuck for some reason. It will move slightly back and forth, but I can't get it out. And believe me, I've tried.

Some footage of the knife: https://youtu.be/6B1a4kYPoLU

Any idea what's causing the issue and if it's something I can address myself?

Hmm that's a new one. I know Benchmade loctites the pivots but I'm not sure what would cause it to move a little back and forth. Maybe it's machined wrong (or right if you like tighter tolerances) and just really really tight. Did you try throwing some oil on it and working it back and forth?

I know when I take my Benchmades apart the pivot comes out easier if I take pressure off of the axis lock. Try pulling the axis bar back and pushing the pivot out at the same time, let the blade move freely also when you do this.

I didn't think about that. That's a great suggestion

Already tried doing that. It makes no difference.

Try to take off the second handle scale, pull the axis lock bar.
It is possible that the pivot is blocked by the scale.

As far as I can tell it is impossible to remove the other scale before having removed the pivot.

There is nothing holding that part of the pivot in place. Put your Torx driver back into it like you showed in the video and tap the torx driver on the table while holding the knife parallel to the table. I've had to do this a number of times. There's most likely just some gunk built up that is on the side of the pivot that doesn't want to come out.

You could also put the knife on something like a wedding ring and use something to tap the Torx driver so that the knife is on the table. I only say wedding ring as it will give a bit of room for the pivot to come out if you tap on the driver with a small object / hammer.

Have you tried pulling the pivot with the blade extended? How about with the blade extended and tension off the Axis lock? It almost looks like the flats on the pivot is binding up on the scale or frame.

Have you tried to remove the pivot screw on the other side of the knife?

No, I had not. :o

I've disassembled, cleaned, and put the knife back together now. Good as new. :)

Due to the shape of the pivot it is impossible to push it through the scales on either side.

Forgot to take a picture...

I'm not buying it. So how do you get the blade out if you can't remove the pivot. Come on....that's not possible. I'm being serious.
