Hi y'all--
This is my first post and oddly isn't how I thought I start my participation in the community. I've been reading the forums for weeks and have learned so much already (I'm just starting a collection). Knives have always been a part of my life...I can't remember a time in my life when my Dad didn't have a knife on him... now that I have boys of my own I'm trying to keep this going for them. The knives I have are usable folders and I envision that is always going to be the majority of my collection. Most are widely available production models with my most "exclusive" being an earth brown Sypderco Paramilitary 2, but I hope to add a few discontinued limited edition and custom knives in my collection over time.

This brings me to the point of this post. Yesterday I visited a local knife shop and held a few Benchmades (first timer). They are very nice (the Axis lock and action on them are great)... a Bone Collector and Rift are definitely on my wish list. I also got to hold a 530 Pardue... amazingly light knife. The sales guy also showed me a model that I didn't really know much about... a 530-111 Gold Class. We mainly discussed the handle rigidity between it and the normal production 530 and that was that. It was a beautiful knife. After getting home and doing some research I found it's also a very rare knife so now I'm thinking about adding it to my collection (I'm not sure how many limited edition knives will cross my path).

Does anyone have experience with this particular model? I know it's an individual taste question, but is it one of those grab-it-when-you-see-it knives?

Thanks in advance.

Hate to be that guy, but this is the wrong section, and only gold members can ask for prices.

What Steve said.
I suggest you edit the post to remove the request for price information. Then you can just have it asking about the knife itself.

And I'm moving this from Traditional to General.

Thanks guys and sorry about that. New guy syndrome. Looks like a mod already killed the price section in the post. I'll edit the title to remove the pricing bit.

I do not own one, or have even used one. But I think the 530-111 is a incredibly beautiful knife, the 530 in itself is a great blade and the gold class version I would assume just builds upon that. If I found it at a local dealer for under $500 I think I would have to pick it up but that is just what id be willing to pay for it, know the suggested retail was somewhere near then upon release, id only assume it is still around that if not more now.

And welcome to bladeforums!

Thanks for the feedback and the welcome. My local dealer is asking a bit more than this which is why I'm trying to decide if the knife falls into the "we don't see many of these" categories. I'd think that a knife that is only 1 of 150 ever made would be rare, but I'm too new to this to really have any sense of rarity. Maybe 1 of 1 is the only true rarity.

After seeing the regular one the other day I can't get it out of my mind... I say do eeet!

I'm having the same problem... I was completely set on getting a normal production one and then started researching the Gold Class. Surprisingly the wife didn't kick me in the rump when I brought up the subject of an expensive knife.

I tend to think of the BM gold class as standing in the middle ground of high end customs and high end production since there only made in limited numbers.
If purchasing it doesn't break the bank to tear up the wallet then by all means go for it, at least having it in your hand will give your mind some rest from thinking of it all the time.

Women collect shoes and clothes; men collect knives and tools, such brings balance and equilibrium.

If you like the knife, and it's not going to kill your wallet, do it.
It's a great and rare knife. I would pick it up as soon as possible, before someone else realizes what a beautiful rarity it is.

It will make an awesome addition to your collection, and heck you could even carry it and use it, and as long as you take good care of it, it won't lose much value, if any. =]

BUY IT!!! Buy it NOW!!

Unfortunately there is no equilibrium in my house... the wifey doesn't collect anything. Luckily she indulges my hobbies . I love that woman.

Agreed! It will get carried... I can't justify a collection of safe queens. When I do carry it I'll be very careful with it.

I visited the dealer this afternoon and I'm now the proud owner of #110 of 200 :D This knife is beautiful! Now I need to get some real photos of it (all I have so far are iPhone shots).

Nice collection there jbob! The dealer I visited today had a Tilt available too... oh the temptation!

Thanks for all of the input (and outright encouragement). Time for me to go become a paid member and help support this forum (I'm going to stick around for awhile).

Losing battle indeed. :D

Enjoy that knife! If it's anything like the one pictured you got a stunner, no doubt.

When you photograph it, please shoot the thumbstuds carefully. I'd really like to see them up close if possible. :)

I chose that name for a reason

Will do. The studs are beautiful... inlaid citrine gems. The whole knife is just gorgeous. I'm happy with the purchase.

Not the very best picture, but you can get a feel for the inlaid axis lock and thumb studs :)

The light in my office is pretty nice right now so I was able to get a decent (not macro quality) photo of the stud and lock gems.
