I am looking for those that have the 530. I have been looking to buy one, but am getting conflicting information. Two websites, One Stop Knife Shop and Knife Center, both list the 530 as being made of 440C, and Benchmades website lists it as 154CM. Which is correct?

Also, who has one that reccomends this as an edc?

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that Benchmade switched it to 154CM sometime in 2006. But its possible that some dealers still have stock in 440C.

I love the knife and carried it as an office/urban blade for over a year with no complaints. Considering its weight, its pretty rugged. I used it once in the office to drill holes in 1/2 inch sheetrock to run an emergency computer cable and it held up perfectly, though needed a little sharpening of the tip when I was done ;) Its extremely thin and carries comfortably. I removed the clip on mine and just carried it in my pocket. The axis lock release studs and thumb studs on the blade are flush with the handle making it next to impossible to open and close wearing gloves but other than that its a great all around light to medium duty knife with plenty of blade

I don't know about the steel change. But I have the 440C version. I do not use it much, but it seems like it would definitely get the job done for many cutting tasks. I like the size, shape, and weight of the knife. It is fairly grippy for a plastic-handled knife also. I second the thumb stud comment. It is very close to the handle and can make opening tougher than necessary. The axis lock switch is also kind-of set low in the handle for my tastes. The thin profile of the handle drew me to the knife in the first place.

It is a nice thin knife. Worth the money but a little difficult to open with wet hands.

It was actually my first Benchmade, and that remains in my rotation today. I love that its such a slim and light knife, and the spearpoint blade has a very practical shape. It was the first knife I have ever owned with essentially plastic handles, and has far exceeded my expectations as far as not being flimsy at all.

Mine has the 154 CM steel and its a pleasure to sharpen, which isnt very often. I'd highly recommend this knife, the axis-lock is killer and youll forget you even have it there. When you need it however, it performs brilliantly.
