Well, hello. I have been a member here since like 1999. Not always under this name. Anyway, like many of you, I was always searching for that perfect knife. I tried them all, from the Sebenza to Pakistan pos. I haven't posted, or even logged onto BF for quite a while. The reason? I found my perfect folder! I know, I didn't think it was possible either, but it seems to have happened. I never expected it to be this knife, but it just does it all for me. The knife is the Benchmade 530 Pardue. Mine is FRN handle, axis lock and 154CM. It is truly a wonderful piece of cutlery. It is so thin and light, you can put it anywhere. The steel is great, not too hard, yet holds it's edge quite awhile. The axis is awesome. Not only the strength of the lock, but the ability to flick open by pulling back the release. Legal and as fast as an auto, probably more reliable than many. Made in USA. Some may think it is too light duty, but it has been my EDC for a few years now, and I have never once found it to not be up to the job. That's pretty much all I wanted to say about that.
Otherwise, I still like knives, and now that I have my CCW, I am looking for a fixed blade for concealed carry as a backup to my gun. I'll never stop liking knives, but my EDC folder has been found!

I have to agree with you, the BM530 is an amazing knife... It was definitely one of my favorites up until I lost it a few months ago, it still upsets me a little bit. Shaving sharp right out of the box, quick deployment, and extremely light, what more can you ask for?

*Sigh!*

I just love love stories....

Seriously, it's always great to hear such things, especially after a few years of ownership. But me, I'll never be a one-knife man. I have a roving eye and I just can't be faithful like I'd like. Still, my other knives understand. Occasionally people see me out with one knife one evening and another knife on another evening and I know they disapprove. But they never say anything. Some of my knives have tried to leave me, but they always come back, or at least most of the time they do. One jumped out of my pocket and hid under a couch for awhile, but we were finally reunited.

I also have varied tastes. Some of my knives are expensive and cultured; others are just cheap, trashy types I'm ashamed to be seen with. Even though they don't have much substance, they still appeal to me in some sordid way I can't explain. You don't ever want to drink before picking up a knife or you may regret it later, when you wake up and take a good look at it. It can be awkward.

Anyway, it's great to hear. Do you have any pictures you can post?

I, too, am quite enamored with my BM 530, which is an older, 440C (Benchmade's mystery steel, as the carbon they list for 440C is incorrect) model. I put it right up there with the older model Spyderco Delicas for functionality and ease of carry. It's one of the few models that, in my opinion, Benchmade got exactly right. Though it is extremely light, I never feel 'underknifed' carrying it.

Regards,

I have this knife in my pocket and agree 100%.I like the dagger/boot knife shape also. For me,It beats the mini grip hands down.

Ah this thread is making me want to pick up another one of these bad boys. Bladeforums is putting a real beating on my wallet.

They are priced right too.I got mine here on the forum even cheaper, lightly carried.

As said before, they not only flick open with little effort, not even touching the thumb stud, but also close the same way with very little practice.

Good knife, to be sure. I'd tell folks who like that to take a careful, close look at the Gerber Applegate Fairbairn Covert as well. I know Gerber gets an iffy name around here, but this knife has a great handle, rock solid lockup with their version of a backup safety, great 154cm, a touch longer than the BM 530 and, just IMO, a sturdier better handle.

I just got a 530 a couple of weeks ago, and I love it. It is now one of my favorite knives, if not at the top of the list. Light, very, very sharp, and the smoothest opening and closing folder I have ever had. All that, and an axis lock, too.

Good Knife for light use, i EDC it often in the hotter days of Summer, cause its so light and you can clip it to your cargo shorts etc. My version ist 440c, no Problems ever with this one !Very easy to get it razorsharp.

I had one and got rid of it, regret that. The 530 is a love it or hate it knife, and both sides seems to point out how thin it is. The blade was so thin, it would cut like a laser then sharpen back up in half the strokes as any other knife I owned. I got rid of it because I broke my hand, and half of my knives suddenly became un-holdable because they pushed on a part of my pinkie that now has a bone growth on it.

The 530 is my fav Benchmade. It goes on my 3 mile walk in the mountains everyday.

Wow! I didn't know it was such a popular knife. I never planned on it being the one. In fact, I mainly bought it because I have always been a benchmade guy. I wanted a new knife and didn't have a lot of $$. I will probably still buy more, I still love knives. But, I will never get rid of my 530! Thanks for all the posts. IronMan

I have one and the only thing I don't like is the studs on the axis lock are kind of slippery. Its not as easy to unlock as the other axis locks. Most of my axis locks I can unlock one handed but the 530 I need to us both fingernails.

Ironman,
I know how you feel, the 530 is a sweet knife. I carry this knife when I'm wearing a suit. It's so low profile you hardly know it's in your pocket. :)

I've been carrying mine for four years now, and it's my primary EDC. Great knife!

Great knife!!! Light weight, slim, low profile, good steel, axis lock. You can hardly notice that you're carrying it. I love the blade shape.
