Just picked up a Benchmade 531, first production. I'm a big fan. Will be my new EDC.

I have a 530, such a cool little knife. I wish I had bought one of those S30V versions though with the carbon fiber. The 531 is a really nice upgrade in handle materials and blade grind. Congrats on a nice purchase.

The knife is super light, but feels solid. The blade opens like butter. I love the G10 handles, the coloring and texture is great, the knife feels nice to hold. The blade grind is a big improvement over the 530 IMO. I would recommend the 531.

P.S. - I put a BM deep carry clip on it.

I live my 531 First Run, but I would have preferred a different color/tone G10. In it's current form, it's too ashy looking and looks worn.

That was my fault with it as well. I would have preferred all black G-10 instead of two toned. I still may pick one up and give it a RIT dye treatment and see what it looks like.

I think I'm gonna like the two tone worn look, but can't really say since I'm still waiting in the production knife to hit my local dealer. Staring to think I should have just ordered one from KW, but at least I'm supporting the local business.

You can easily restore the clean/new look to ashy G10 by using a little Blue Lube. Most (not all) G10 will get that old worn look to it over time, through temperature and humidity changes.

- I also wish I picked up the CF version of the 530. I'm a huge fan of the 530 design, but I hated the feel of the original handle. I really like the design of the 531, but I'm at the stage of collection where I've become a steel snob. If it's not a significant improvement over a knife that I have, I'm not going to buy it. I'm still hoping for a 531 variation that's M390... and not in the Gold Class price range.

I find myself wanting to buy a 531. I had a 530 but didn't like the plastic handles and the thumb stud. Now that it's G10 I think I will like the knife better but am still a little leery of that skinny little thumb stud. Does anyone know, or has anyone tried, to swap out the thumb stud for a larger one?

I haven't, but believe me, there is nothing to worry about. In fact, when you pull the Axis Lock back, it pushes the blade out and so with just a flick of the wrist the knife is open. :)
