The Benchmade 550SHG Griptilian is awsome. I just got it yesterday and it has all the features in a knife that a user could want.

It's like having two of my favorite knives put together, the spyderco endura, and the benchmade griptilian.

This knife has a round thumb-hole and the axis lock, what more could you want :D? The blade shape is great and is thick all the way up to the tip. This is a lot different than the 551 griptilians that I'm used to carrying. Same great griptilian handle, but with a better blade shape (IMO).

I compared it to the 551, and side by side they have the exact same cutting surface, but it's the spine of the knife and the tip that make the difference (and the hole vs the thumbstud of course). The 550SHG has a thick spine and a stronger tip, whereas the 551 is more of a drop point shape that tapers down to a fine tip. The 550SHG has a hollow ground blade and it's a great user.

Let me know what you guys think of it, J.

It's become the Griptilian I carry the most.

Paired up with a Buck 301, they are my most often carried knives these days for general EDC.

I was leery of the hollow ground blade at first, but it's a real cutter!

The Griptilians really are an amazing knife from Benchmade. In my opinion they are the best bang for the buck. My first griptilian was the 551 satin finish straight edge. That knife has always surprised me in lock strength and endurance.

It's a great bushcraft and all around work knife. Heck, the Ritter Grip is labled as a survival knife, and that's pretty much the same knife with a different blade steel.

Me and one of my best friend`s / member of this forum too - Alexander 80 / both have Griptilians 551 - mine and 550 - his, the older model. I like his better that mine but in general the Griptillian is one of my favourite production made american folder, especially in concern with it`s very good edge retention and the ease of sharpening at the same time.
