Hey guys, just picked up this little lovely. Benchmade 551 special edition Griptilian REI exclusive. Full sized griptilian, satin S30V blade, OD/black g10 handles and green back spacers. I think it's pretty sick, personally. All the great ergonomics of your garden variety griptilian, and the upgraded steel and feel of G10. I'm not wild about the back spacers color, but back spacers in general are pretty great, so I'm not complaining. I always liked the Grip but never held on to one, so this is perfect for me. I know they did something similar to this for either BLADE or SHOT, in a black and red color combo, but this is more my speed. Yay :).

I was just thinking about that other Grip, the one with the black G10 and red spacers and hoped they would come out with something similar soon. I guess this is pretty close! I like the bright green standoffs.
 
Sweet blade. Is this a current REI offering, or did you pick it up used?
 
It's a current offering. It was literally this sequence of events; saw on the website, "sick!", 30 minutes later buying it @ REI, 30 minutes later posting pics of it. This the only place where I can say "but it's s30v and g10." And people get it, instead of looking at me like I'm speaking gibberish ;).
 
A griptilian was the first decent knife I ever bought for myself, I was 18. This one is kind of a blast from the past, getting back to the basics nostalgia trip for me. I'd say go for it, if you can, I involuntarily smile every time I flick it out. I'm sure from a 3rd person's view it's all kinds of creepy.
 
Very nice looking knife! I love the bright green standoffs, now I might need to go shopping tomorrow......
 
It is. If you're a member you get 10% back at the beginning of the year, which knocks roughly $18 off in a convoluted fashion.
 
Yep, that REI special is awesome! I picked one up for the lil lady, she loves it. Anyone debating picking one up, do it, you won't be disappointed. I got the shot show g10 grip too. Really hope the next g10 grip is m390, s90v or m2( though not likely) the g10 on the grip is absolutely comfy and gorgeous! BM really hit a home run with this one, pick one up or suffer the aftermarket markup.
 
Couldn't of said it better. An m390 g10 grip would be a godsend. I wasn't a fan of s30v for a long time, until I got my sharp maker, now we get along just fine. My 581 barrage got bumped from the pocket to the pack by today's acquisition. I have missed the manual axis lock. Rajincajin, any chance of a SHOT/REI grip photo op? I'd love to see the 2 together.
