First off, this is not one of those which one should I buy threads, as I have both, I am just curious.

For those of you who have both or chose one over the other, why do you carry the one you do. Personally I love them both, and I don't know which one I like more. They are both great knives and I find myself carrying one or the other everyday. I find I like the Ritter Grip more for food type work as it tends to be a better slicer but I feel like it is heavier. But I love my 551 because its light, opens fast and has been through hell with me.

I am just curious as to what other people think and which one they find themselves reaching for and why.

I definitely prefer the Ritter. I find the blade shape more useful, and the S30V holds an edge much longer than the 551's 154CM.

I've got both also but have always felt a bit weary of using the Ritter hard because of the chipping issues I've read about. I've definitely used my 551 more but prefer the Ritter's blade shape also.

I agree

In fact I just gave away my 551 for my 1000st post contest. The Ritter's blade shape is what really does it for me. I was never really fond of the 551's blade design.

I prefer the Ritter for it's grind, blade shape, S30V steel and the extra blade weight makes closing it easy with just a twitch of the wrist.

That said, I appreciate all my Grips.
