I would like opinions on the Benchmade 580 Barrage.
Is Benchmade customer service as good as Kershaw?
Other than the 585 and the 580,how many other 58x are there?

I have the 581 Barrage and i like it a lot. BM's customer service is very good. I had a problem with one of the screws on the knife and they sent me a bunch of replacement screws and a new clip (different finish) at no charge. I did have to harass them a bit before it happened but I thought it was very good of them.

IMHO the 580 beats a kershaw in every single aspect I can think of. Lock style, spring tension, pocket clip, a double lock, 154CM, thin V grind with a false edge. I feel the only aspect that may be undesirable is the handle has a little width, about as much as the 551. This bothers some people, I like it.

Yes, Benchmade customer service is just as good as kershaw.

I have the Benchmade 581 Barrage and love the knife. Can't leave home without it. The handle has thickness to it which fits my hand very comfortably, I have very hard time holding thin knives. Benchmade customer service has been great every time I have called them. I asked for new screws for my Contego without question recieved them in about a week.

No crititism on the Contego, I messed up the screws there was no faults from benchmade.

Some of my favorite Benchmades - and current production, at that! Top down: 581, 755, 480-1.

The handle/bolster is neater on the 581 vs 580 Barrage. The three above share another attribute - they all use Bohler m390 steel - great blade steel. The 755MPR gets the most carry - and has been resharpened several times. The other two are tied for second place - and have each been resharpened with my Sharpmaker. I have a few Kershaws, including the SW Tilt! - and some ZT's. But... the 581 Barrage in m390 is an affordable and dependable cutting tool. I have more Benchmades than Spyderco's, Kershaws, and ZT's combined... that my state a bit of bias... sorry!

Here is what little I know:
The 581 is similar to the 580 but a bit fancier.
The 583 is the tanto blade version, and also comes in the "Warn" model (Warn winch version) with different scales.
