I would re-assemble it with the broken spring and send it in to benchmade for repair.
Yes. This. Send it to bm. They will take care of it. Only issue might be if you are international. Wouldn't want to lose the knife in shipping. They might send the part out to you in that case.

Another vote for contacting BM. I’m an international customer and they have been extremely helpful in the past.

Just keep in mind that this is an incredibly busy time of year, and manage your expectations accordingly.

Hi.

I've had a couple Benchmade barrages over the years, and I ended up removing the assist from each of them intentionally.

If you're okay with the knife being a manual folder (which is actually very nice on those knives), then try this:

1) Remove the visible screws in the handle and on the clip, then remove the handle scales.
2) Loosen the pivot screw and the pair of screws holding the stop pin. If you have blue loctite, you can remove the pivot screw entirely and put a drop on the threads, then thread it back into place.
3) Tighten the stop pins screws just enough to be hand-tight.
4) Slowly tighten the pivot screw, checking after each minute adjustment for blade play. You should be able to get the pivot just to the point where there is either acceptably low levels of play or none at all.
5) Put the handle scales and clip back onto the knife and install all the screws except for the ones by the pivot area (the front of the knife).
6) Install those remaining screws by the pivot, but very carefully tighten them, checking to make sure after each small adjustment that you didn't develop any blade play or too much friction in opening/closing action. If the action starts getting bad, loosen the screw a tad and then leave it.

That should give you a very smooth manual folding knife.

I had a BM Apparition that came with an Allen key to remove the spring assist. It was incredibly smooth manually opening. I would like to buy it back if I could.:(

thank everyone, and marrenmiller very helpful
marrenmiller marrenmiller I had tightlen screw but the knife still play blade for a long time
The knife still has play after tightening the pivot screw down? That knife doesn't have a bushing pivot so you should be able to tighten it as far as you want; you could even tighten it would much that it stops opening, not that you'd want to. Can you post a picture of what you're talking about?

That's what I don't understand. What kind of play are you referring to? The pivot should be able to be tightened to the point where the blade can't even move, let alone have horizontal play. If it can't, then there's something seriously wrong with it.
Did you put the bronze washers back into the knife when you reassembled it?

If it gets loose after opening and closing it a bunch of times, then you need to put threadlocker on the pivot screw before reinstalling it.
