I just got a brand new one and not really sure what is wrong with it. The bias towards closure isn't really working. I tried tightening the pivot and that didn't seem to do anything except make the blade harder to deploy. It's so loose right now I can push in on the blade pushing it towards the handle and deploy it when I release the pressure. I think it might be a problem with a spring. Is there anything I can do to fix it or should I just send it in for warranty repair? Thanks for any help you can provide.

if you bought it from a dealer, i would get in touch with them first. if not then contact benchmade and see what they say.

This is a common problem with Benchmade's Axis Assist mechanism and pretty easy to fix. It is indeed a problem with the coil spring; specifically, the spring's tab has come out of it's channel within the hub of the blade. This channel is very shallow so if the pivot screw isn't tight enough to secure the spring tab in it, it can pop out.

Let me know if you'd like to fix it yourself and I'll find the thread in which I've explained this process before. The only tools required are a T6 and T8 torx driver.

I have the tools so I'd like to fix it myself. I found this post under your previous posts. I believe it's the correct one but if not let me know.

Yeah, that's one of them (somebody posts something about this problem every once in awhile). It's a pretty easy fix, but let me know if something unclear.

Pretty sure, not completely sure though, that I fixed it following those instructions. It's acting differently compared to before. I don't think it should be deploying when I just pull back on the axis lock since it's only an assist and not an auto. I guess that's just another problem I have to figure out. Was also glad to get the information about not over tightening the scales. Thanks for the help Bryan.

If the knife is deploying when you pull back the Axis Lock, then you haven't quite gotten the spring tab into the proper spot within the hub of the blade. This "Auto Axis" behavior is a hallmark of the slipped spring problem, another being that the force of the blade deployment is weaker than it should be. I'll post a short video clearly explaining how to fix the spring and be sure that everything is working properly.

Thanks for the video and all your help. I thought there was something weird about it having the auto behavior but thought it was another problem. I didn't think too much since it felt different and the deployment felt pretty fast. Since you mentioned that people come here with this problem every so often maybe we can get the mods to sticky your video and just label it "Axis Assist Spring Fix" or something like that.
