Please can anyone give me a quick rundown on this knife?

Looking for a gift for my father.

Thanks,

Kevin

IMO, the 581 is a great combination of materials. You get M390 which is a great stainless steel, it holds an edge for a long time, is very much stainless, and I haven't found it to be very hard to sharpen.

The handle of aluminum and G-10 is a necessary upgrade over the valox of the 580.

The only thing I don't like is the assisted opening but that's a preference.

I would say that if you are going to pick one up, try and buy from a shop you can go visit. I've handled a few axis assist knives that had some up and down play, not all just some. So I would say to handle the one you are going to buy

Thanks so much for this. How do you adjust the pivot tension??? I don't see an exposed bolt on both sides.

You have to take the aluminum bolster off on one side and the pivot screw is hidden underneath the aluminum bolster :)

Sweet! Thanks!

I'm about to order this. Large or small is now my question. The dealer I always go to will check it for me for play etc. :)
