Janda Electric is an electric motor service company that runs local television ads here which feature their moto "Make no mistake. This is a big one." The ad features workers loading a huge brush assembly onto a flat bed big rig trailer similar in size to the brush assembly below.

Janda Electric's moto would fit well to describe the 630 Skirmish. The overall size and design lines of this knife push it over the top to make it a charicature of itself.

It really is a beauty but while holding it I just can't get passed how enormous it is - without a doubt the largest folder I have ever handled. Fit and finish are superb. The grind lines on the S30V blade are crisp and give the blade a wonderful multidimensional aspect that just ads to it's charicature. The blade is centered in the handle and shows no play what so ever. The action is firm and smooth with a definitive THWACK as the blade passes over the detent and the frame lock solidly engages the blade tang. Due to the size of this beast I haven't reached a point where I am confident closing it with one hand. That big blade needs to be well disciplined while moving back into the handle if you value your fingers.

I've brought is up to shaving sharpness with just a few strokes on a ceramic rod - still need to work on the tip with the Sharpmaker. This Benchmade S30V just loves to be caressed with ceramics.

The 630 was definitely designed with hard use in mind and would be very much at home in hard use environments such as construction sites, survival situations or in martial/self defense applications. The 630 would make a fine blade for the Gentleman Warrior looking to get the job done in style. It may be a little big for speed if you are a smaller framed person but you big guys would probably dig it. I wouldn't hesitate to use this knife for some chopping or digging or batoning if I had to.

How does it cut? Good question. Stay tuned!
