This started in a passaround where you can read specs and more delightful stuff HERE.
There will probably be some reviews and witless..errrrrr....witty banter also as the passaround gets going.

This thing is friggin HUGE!!

I thought this was going to be Sebenza size but it's much bigger. Framelock that covers the blade well. It reminds me of the size of a Cuda Maxx. The Maxx was too big for me.
It's a right handful that's for sure. My first impression is that it's too big to be my edc. BUT what's it's heart made of? What can it do? I'll use it as I think it's made to be .... as a cutting tool.!!?? I love S30 steel.

This is my plan: to cut down and shave a stake out of a pallet :) I wish I was going into the woods and I may go thru a course I have that I tested Khukhuris in.

Here it is compared to an Emerson CQC7 that I just got and won't carry till my time is done with the 630. Top is a MrBulk VIP luxeon iii led light and a ruler..Hmmmmm, I spect you knew that.

the 630 Skirmish is a lovely piece of equipment. Snaps open with a resounding thwack! NO BLADE PLAY!! Perfectly centered blade.
This is number 0037 of 1000 First Production Run.
Here is the clip side. It can carry only tip up (OK, OK IT'S TIP DOWN!!) and right handed. I have had a couple of instances where my thumb has hit the wrong hole and delayed opening.

From the top showing the centeredness and the ridged thumb rest. I always appreciate this touch as it improves the grip.

Here I wanted to show the colors that are incorporated in the dimples. The scales are titanium.

Well that's all for now. I haven't cut but some edc stuff: envelopes, boxes and I couldn't get it into a jar of peanut butter to spread so I used my finger
hahahahaha

Looks like tip down carry to me, unless you're carrying it around open in your pocket (is that a Skirmish in your pants, or are you just glad to see me?). Or have I had the lingo wrong all this time? Please advise. Nice pics.

Ah the midnight madness must have taken me. Shift work will do that. :)

Tho it's funny...As I was changing into street clothes (after my 6th 12 hr shift, ot is good) I had this same self conversation ....is it tip up or down??
Does it mean when it's open, it's tip up?
So I'll bow to the saner, or at the moment, more lucid and call it tip down

Thanks Ritt and Sharp :)

Tho this could, maybe, start a post all it's own
hahahaha

It kinda has a sebenza flavor to it....i hope bm comes out with a smaller 3 inch blade version.

mine's still in the box. it to pretty to use. i think i'll get another for EDC. it is VERY large. in some ways it's to big to use but it carries nice. i tend to carry 2 knives anyway...one that get used all the time and one that gets used every now and then. this blade is the letter of the 2. it's worth every penny though. a great folder!

I agree, love the shape and workmanship seems great, a small unobtrusive model might just seduce me.

The more I use the 630...THE MORE I LIKE IT..
Since all I'm gonna be doing is working or sleeping while I have this, least till I win it :), I put it thru a bit of plastic pail cutting. I've done this with most knives I'm testing. The pails are industrial and have thick areas for the locking tops and structural integrity.
I don't think any have done as well as the 630.

Push cut thru the top edge was a piece of cake. Just my weight (hey, watch those comments) and straight down.
630buck02.jpg

the screw on lid has always been a problem to cut thru and I think this is the first time I spent the time and did it. A thick mutha.
630buck03.jpg

my hand hurt after the lid was cut thru using push, slice and sawing thru. The clip was the offender. Were I to have this I may consider a leather sheath.

I moved the blade across paper, no force, after I was done and it was a marvel. No drag at all.

I hope I run across a deer, road kill and try it out then.

Great pics especially the pic on the spine closed as you can imagine real thickness.

Just that i´m leftie keeps me away from it. A really great knife. Carry a 806 and noticed that the handles are nearly same size as the blade of the 630 is longer. Much better.

I try to bend folders open to see if they withstand more pressure without playing. Some folders, which aren´t playing by soft touch start this by higher pressure. Did you try this? Really no play?

Hi Blop, I don't picture what you mean by bending it open. How and I'll try.

I think removal of the clip would make it ok for leftie. The framelock may be another story tho.

Tonight I started on the pallet dismantling when I remembered I forgot (remembered I forgot..what's this??) my camera. So a brief respite till tomorrow.
So I made a frozen pizza, sliced it with the 630. As good as any pizza cutter I have. A couple of Oranges sliced up.
While I was washing the knife I went to dry it and the blade touched my finger. not a slicing action but a touch or slight push cut.
Yep, a slight wound developed.

It is NOT the best envelope opener I have :)

On the off chance that I don't win this knife. I'm gonna buy one!!
I REALLY,REALLY LIKE THE 630 SKIRMISH

EDC in my right front jeans pocket is fine. I forget I have it till I sit....WOO BOY!!
Tom

If it wasn't for the multiple holes in the blade and the girly anodizations I'd just have to buy it.

This is what I had planned for tonight. To take apart the pallet with the 630.
I removed two of the boards and then canned the idea as the wrong tool for this. It was doing the job but it was tough going and it did show me the structural integrity of the knife.
I whittled the board to toothpick size and the blade is still sharp.
AWESOME

Oh well I guess I'll be sending this off on Monday. It is a terrific knife and I will have one in my BOB.

After all it's been thru the 630 is still a dragon slayer

I looked at the edge under a microscope, if you get a chance look at edges under a cheap handheld 30x-90x, and it looked pretty ratty. But BGF will put another edge on it and save the day. Naked eye shows a bright gleam and still slices paper as if new. What great grind and steel.
Tom

Thanks for sharing that with us. I have one of those coming, and I'm curious indeed to see if it lives up to my expectations.

Blop & Tob...

Don't be shy on the Skirmish cuz you're a lefty; a few minutes practice and i had it opening and closing with my left as well as my right. Yes, that includes the framelock action to close it. (Yep, i'm ambi~)
i suppose it would be nicer to the touch without the clip, when in the left, and i bot a #6 Torx driver just for that, but it still is very usable with the clip on; it fits in the back pocket or front pocket on the left and can be deployed as fast there as on the right.
In fact, i got two of 'em, for they are SWEET. (0060 & 0177/1000  )
The sweetest folding knife i've ever handled.
Of course, "Sweet" to me may mean something different than to others; to me it means smooth action, solid locking, NO play in blade, (no, none at all...!), fits balanced in the hand, NO chance of moving around in the hand, and precise control when cutting, & accurate aim when targeting...
It also has: point in the middle, big belly, and reverse curve, so the defensive aspect is "all there" as an added bonus to the utility functions.
IT FEELS LIKE A KNIFE IN YOUR HAND, not a tiny, flimsy utensil. it is Well-Made. It is Blackwood-Made, it is BenchMade.
(Still waitin' on the Busse Folder; the Skirmish will fill in any gaps til then.)
Ciao for now...
Clif
