I've been really really really wanting one of these, but after reading the passaround I'm having my doubts. My only real concern is the lock failing. I've read a few reports about it failing with very little force. So I'm wondering if this is a limited issue, or a really wide spread issue with this knife? If it is an issue, and the knife is sent in for warranty work, does anyone know what the fix is? Any information to help with my decision would be appreciated. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.

Well lets see, i own 4 benchmade 670's including a 670, 670 prototype, 670-01 prototype, and a 670DM-502 and have not had the lock on any of them even come close to failing. But if it did benchmade would fix it for me. Dont believe everything (anything) you read on the spyderco forum. jk :D

Never had any problems with the 670, its a real nice knife, the only wharncliff type i can ever accept.....

I'm sending mine in, it fell on the concrete floor and won't even open now. But it did fall on the floor, so that might have hurt it a little. Other than that, I love it.

The lock on mine will fail if it gets dirty, that I have noticed. Seems to be an issue with both the liner lock and the blade being really polished steel, so if it gets dirty, the liner lock will slip under pressure. If I keep it clean though, the lock is rock solid.

To me, there is a bit of an issue, but not terribly so. Overall, I love the knife.
