Hello all, this is the first time I'm gonna review something....but there's a first for everything right? :D
Also I want to do this because when I was doing some research on the 690 before buying.....turned out to be not so much written about this knife.

To begin with: here are a few pic's of the knife I'm reviewing, my Benchmade 690 (thanks needleremorse!!)

The blade of mine is made of 154CM,witch is a higher grade steel. It came very sharp out of the box (sharpest I had ever seen!) It's not coated...but satin finished, looks better then coating IMO and doesn't have so much trouble with scratches. The blade is 3.25" long and is quite thick: 0.133" ,so its a real beefy blade for it's size!

The liners are made of Titamium, and the blue anodisation makes the knife look very cool...The knife is a liner lock. The liner does inspire (some) confidence to me, it's reasonabully thick and snaps correctly into place.
I don't see mysel having any problems with it in the future.
The wood & carbon fibre handles give the knife kind of a classy finish...and they feel very good in the hand. I personally favor wood handles because they have a "warm" feeling....
Handle shape is also comfortable.

Before this I had a Griptilian ith the AXIS lock....I liked the strenght of the AXIS, but I felt that when I used it in a dirty enviroment it got clogged easily and I didn't want to take it apart all too often for cleaning
The 690 has a really open structure (look at the pics') and therefor I think it's quite easy to clean...and it's plenty strong for normal knifeuse!

Like I expect from any benchmade: there is absolutely no bladeplay whatsoever!!! fit & finish is top-notch! Opening and closing were a little difficult at the beginning....but I feel it's starting to wear in already (it's only 4 days old ya know ;) )

All together: It's a beautifull piece of work and definately worth it's (not-so-cheap) price! I bought it as a user....and I'm gonna use it hard! I'm sure it will hold up for as long as I live! (seriously).....
:D but I'm sure to own some more knives before I go ;).....sebenza's the next to come in acouple of years :D

The pocketclip is a little different from other knives, but it works flawlessly.
The knife is tip down carry but it doesn't 'stick out' of your pocket thanks to the fact that the pocket clip is mounted very high on the knife.

well, i guess that's about enough for 'initial impressions'.... :) maybe I'll do another review after a couple months use

Take care, Davy

Thanks for the review, I've often thought about getting one of these. It's a beautiful and well made knife.

The 690 is one of Benchmades finest and an all around great knife. Thanks for the review. :D

I have three 690s, and wouldn't mind another one or two! I have the standard BC1, a limited edition BC1 with full carbon scales, and the satin-finish ivory micarta handle. Great knives, wonderful back-pocket carry, & superb build quality.

I've polished the edges of the clips, which I think finishes them off. Remove the clip, and polish the rough edges with 1000 and then 1500 grit paper wrapped around a toothpick. Use a fine file to start the roughest areas, and end with some metal polish like Mother's Billet or Blue Magic.

The pivot benefits from application of Militec-1, followed by heating the area with a hair dryer. Militec is the BM OEM lube, but they don't heat the metal to "fix" the Militec. The washers are nylatron, and BM says they probably don't have bronze washers to replace the nylatron, but these are very smooth openers after doing the heated Militec routine. Militec and a chamois are great ways to remove fingerprints on the BC1 finish.
