Can I get some opinion on the knife, I have an opportunity to acquire one but it has small chip in wood. It is also part serreated, not my favorite style. Any help appreciated.

Hi, First I would say that the 690 is a collector's piece. I have two of them, but would never use them because there are other knives I would rather use and abuse. Not because the 690 is bad, because it is a solid gentleman's folder, but there are better Benchmades with the axis lock that are far superior to the liner. Secondly, other than the chip in the wood if it is in otherwise good condition then get it, if its for a good price (no more than $180 if used). It's the most handsome knife Benchmade has ever made, thanks to Elishewitz, but it is a great knife to put on display or keep because they are super rare these days.

Thanks for the response I haven't heard back from seller yet. This one has the partial serration.

I think they would make good user knives and if the one that you are contemplating is not in collector condition then you could carry it without guilt.

I bought one about 10 years ago with the intention of making it my gentleman's carry knife. The one that I bought was a limited edition with ivory micarta scales instead of the rosewood scales. I realized it was a limited production knife and I never could bring myself to carry it. Mine was basically NIB condition so I eventually traded it for a ZT 0561 which I DO carry.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. If the knife isn't exactly what you want, why would you pay for it?
