Hi,

Looking for some feedback on the BM 690. I really like the looks of the knife, but am concerned over the fact that it is a liner lock.

I don't seem to see much about them on the forums.

I've got a 690, very beautiful knife wood/carbon fiber handles over blue titanium. I don't like linerlocks in general but this one is awesome. It is like the one on the old AFCK, nested I think they call it, it is no likely to "fall" open, nor is it very likely to accidently close, the 690, mini-AFCK, and Buck 880SP, and Spyderco Military are the only liner-locks I will use, I trust these models almost completely :) Al Mar's Sere 2K is also supposed to be great but don't have one yet :)

Nice knives(had a couple of them) no problems with the locks.
If you did have a problem some day I'm shure you could get benchmade to fix it unde warranty.

These struck me as a little wide for a shorter knife,I never quite got used to them and traded them away.

My feelings are that knives in this price range should have S30V steel in them.
Benchmade continues to offer new folders in the $100-150 price range in 154CM steel.I think all their knives by now should have S30V for the price.

I dont have a problem with 154,like it-but not on $100 plus knives anymore.

The liner lock is well executed, but it isn't nested. "Nested liners" refers to the specific case where the locking liner is fitted into a cavity milled into the handle scale material. In any case, the 690's linerlock is one of the better examples of its breed.

(I almost bought one, then handled one and couldn't really get myself to like that swedge... looks like someone used an ice cream scoop on the poor thing...)

I have one and like it a lot. Tight lock up, no blade play at all. The only thing I'm not too crazy about is the clip - I would prefer if it was a dark metal and thinner design.

I also have one and really like it. The liners are titanium and there is absolutely no blade play on mine and the liner lock on this one does not give me any concerns. This and the Spyderco Military are about the only liner locks that I will really trust.

It is a sturdy and classy knife.

The 690 is the only liner lock that I own and carry. It makes for a classy dress knife, yet it's pretty tough, too.

I like the BM690, liner lock or not. The thing I don't like is it only has on blade stud, on one side.
It is a tough knife.

Benchmade does that on a LOT of their smaller folder. (I personally have a 885s and 813s with that prob, and have seen more.) Dunno why, but it irks me.

I'm not a lefty, but I find that most liner lock or axis lock folders open easier using my index finger to flick 'em open, rather than the thumb. So I like an ambi thumbstud, thankyouverymuch!

The 690 is definitely a favorite of mine. I carry and use one with black micarta scales quite a bit. (I have another one for sale in the exchange forum, BTW.)

It has great blade geometry, a very comfortable handle, and the pivot is extremely smooth. It’s made of first class materials and it’s just really well built overall. The lock is everything a good liner lock should be too.

I’ve been tempted to collect all the different variations, but that would be quite an undertaking. There are the ones with blue and "rose" woods scales and the ones with black and white micarta scales. I think there was one that was all carbon fiber and A. G. Russell has an exclusive limited edition as well. I don't know if there are any others, but that's a lot of knives! :)
