Benchmade 705 advice

My first benchmade was a 705 BW limited edition in D2 and that got me hooked on AXIS and benchmade. BUT - I traded it away a while back because it just didn't get used that much. I recently acquired a plain old 705 that has now found its way into my pocket more than once. I realized its the scales. The aluminum/bubinga made my original seem bulky and squarish while this one seems more ergonomically friendly.

Is there any LE or other version out there that has the D2 blade but a more ergonomic handle? Can I persuade benchmade to drop the D2 blade into my regular production version? Am I mis-remembering and all the scales are the same dimensions?

thanks!

There is a 705-04 on e-bay right now for 89.99 4 hours left . It has d2 bt blade you could buy it and then take the blade out of it and put it in your standerd 705. I wish benchmade would make a 705 with s30v or m2. :)

Wasn't there a M2 limited edition? Could you send it to BM to swap blades?

I don't think Benchmade will do that. That's why they're "limited."

Of course, it still wouldn't hurt to ask them directly.

They'll do 154CM to M2

Are you sure on that? I know they will replace blades (they said so on the BM forums just recently) but that was a straight replacement blade, not a blade upgrade. I don't see how/why they would replace a stock blade with a blade that only a few were made of.

Sting, glad you're enjoying it! It just didn't like my hand.

Garageboy, did Benchmade actually upgrade blades for you? I ask because the last time I asked them about this - which was a couple years ago, so maybe they changed policy - the blade replacement was same-for-same, only. If you had a 710BT and broke the tip using as a prybar, or scratched up the coating and wanted an unscratched blade, $20 took care of you. But if you wanted to turn the 710BT into a 710 with no coating or 710HS, it was a no-go. Am I remembering wrong, or did they change the policy?

Nick
