Now that Benchmade has released the 940-2 with G-10 instead of aluminum and anodized standoffs instead of the backspacer I think it's time for a 707-2 with G-10 instead of aluminum and anodized standoffs instead of the backspacer.

What do you guys think?

Upgraded steel?

The idea of spending money for upgraded blade steel, and already owning a certain model in the older versions doesn't make sense. My favorite steel is ATS-34, and right next to that is 440C. I love working with both, and in daily use, slice what I need. In real world thinking I can't tell the difference. Take Ernie Emerson; his very well known use of good old 154CM makes sense for the intended use of his products. Good steel, easy to maintain. Have any of you tried S90V? Great stuff until it gets dull and turns into a bear~!

Even 154CM-diehard, Ernie Emerson, may have finally joined the 21st Century with the new Emerson CQC-7 Flipper in S35VN announced late last year.

For the 707-2, I was thinking of an upgrade from 154CM to S30V or better yet S35VN. Nothing more exotic or expensive than those.

I'd jump on that wagon :)

What color standoffs? Purple? I think purple. Something that hasn't been done yet.

I personally like 20CV...am I alone in this?

I hear ya brother.
I like the premier steels and what I do is just give the knife I used a little stropping after I use it. S110v holds a fantastic edge all day long, little strop and it's screaming sharp again.
If you don't completely dull them, it's not too bad.
With 154 or VG10 it would need more than just a strop to come back.
But if I like a design, I won't let steel choice stop me from pulling the trigger. I just like trying different ones......and any excuse to buy another blade is good by me!!!

A couple of years ago I got a new 485 Valet with G-10 and M390 thinking it would replace my 707 Sequel. However, the Valet's ergos are not quite there with a narrow handle, tiny Axis spring and tiny thumb studs. 707 Sequel is smoother and has great ergos. Hopefully, the G-10 doesn't make the handle too thick.

Absolutely. Aluminum is the only thing that kept me away from the 940 for so long. I picked up a 940-2 yesterday.

I like the 707's pattern, but again with the aluminum... Give us some G10 over nested steel liners. I'd be fine with any of BM's steels.

I'm a fan of the Valet. I wish there was a different clip option. While I think it looks great it isn't the most comfortable to me. I like that there's no choil.

A 707 with G10 or Carbon Fiber would be a killer gentlemen's folder. I was always impressed with the blade to handle ratio of the 707.

This is a good idea. I don't like aluminum handle scales. The 707 is a good design though.

I also wanted such a 707 for a long time. Benchmade never came around, but there was a limited run 707 in M390. I picked one up and made it my own.

Im not sure I would be interested now, but there was a time when I would have jumped on the offering. It would be great for those seeking more from the 707. The 707 is one if my favorite BM models.

The 707 is a wonderful knife with an excellent handle to blade ratio. The 705 it replaces was and Is hard to find in nearly any condition; yet the 707 helps to ease the pain.

Hey JoeK, I was lucky to pick up a second 705 last week for a better-matched companion to my original, mostly stock 710. I like the big brother/little brother pairing--http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1416427-Pics-of-Pairs-Large-and-Small-Versions-of-the-Same-Model-- and the 705 feels as good or better than any small knife in my beat-up old carpenter's hands.

I've always had my eye on the Sequel, too, for the blade shape and relationship to the 710, but I can't get by the aluminum handles. I'd be all in for a G10 Sequel with standoffs. It'd be really cool with scales to match the 710.

I'm with JoeP on the steels--"super" steels are great, I do have my favorites, but I like to have some of everything, too. Blade steel is only part of the equation for what turns me on in a knife. Like Ram says, though, and as long as we're fantasizing, a little bump to S35VN would be nice….

Yup!!!! LOOOOVE the 705!!
And like my bro Chazzy, I love carrying it with a 710!!
The 705 fills your hand so much better than other smallish blades!

I hope someone from Benchmade is listening! I'd think it's beneficial for both parties. :)
