Which one is the better knife? I know the 707 sequel is a little thinner and has g10. Is that the $40 difference? Or is there more?

Pretty much just the handles, but the 707 also has full length liners instead of little inlay liners I believe. I think it's worth the difference to get the 707, if they had one with the 555HG blade I would have skipped the mini grip for the 707.

I would go with the 555hg. I've got one and in both the closed and opened positions it is sublime. Not worth it to upgrade to a knife with crappier deployment method and worsened grip.

Mini Grip also has a full length liners: that is a common mistake to believe they are inlay as in a regular model. I have got both Mini-Grip and 707. Both are excellent knives. 707 is a bit more expensive, so I have started with Mini-Grip, but ended up with both anyway!
You will be happy whatever choice you make!

One advantage to the mini-Grip is that down the line you could customize the scales much easier. I would go with the ritter mini, from knife works. The blade has a nice belly and good steel. Then later on you could replace the scales, if you even want to.

With all the mini-grip love I have to go oppo here. I have both and prefer the 707. The mini grip is great too, though (as long as it's not the model with the goofy hole in the blade).

I've had both never both at the same time though, i always wondered if you could put a mini griptilian blade on the 707, you could make some interesting combinations if you can. I like both, but probably the 707 more, it is really comfortable in the hand without a clip too and makes for a good in the pocket drop in kind of knife.

Apologies, by "full length" I meant the full dimension of the handles. The Mini Grip liners are set into the scales, but the 707 liners are not. This is highly preferable for me, but may make no difference to others.

That goofy hole in the blade is so much easier to get at when opening the knife, and will never snag on a pocket. Plus the blade shape and grind are way more appealing. But to each their own. ;)

I love the Sequel, however the handel can be a bit short for some people.

I haven't noticed any practical advantages in my own use; the Benchmade axis lock knives I carried were if anything easier to open (wrist flicking without touching the axis lock, or by the studs) for me than the Spyderco knives I carry everyday now. I do notice one major difference, though, the hole is seriously goofy looking, and it makes for fat blades that eat up extra pocket space. But agreed, it would be a boring world if we all had the same tastes ;)

I own both and I prefer the 707. It's better looking and sleeker. But mainly it comes down to the handles. I like the feel of the aluminum over the zytel plastic. The plastic handles on the MiniGrip have rounded sides and they get quite thin towards the edges. You'd think it would make the knife more ergonomic but in my opinion it just makes it feel weak at the edges. The G10 inlay on the 707 is mostly an aesthetic accent since it is not grippy at all, it's quite smooth. And I prefer the arrow black oxide clip on the 707 rather than the painted clip on the MiniGrip. Also the blade tip is a little more stout on the 707. However, if you get a Ritter blade mini grip, then the winner in the blade category goes to the MiniGrip hands down, especially if you get it in s30v or even M4. The Ritter blade is much wider has a very stout tip. The tip angle on the Ritter is almost 90 degrees where as the 707 comes in at a little over 45 degrees and I'd say the standard grip blade is just under 45 degrees. The tip on the sheepsfoot blade might be a little stouter than the standard. Speaking of the sheepsfoot blade, I think the axis lock lends itself to being "flicked"open, so I prefer the thumbstud. As far as bladeplay goes, they both have a tiny bit. Perfectly acceptable considering how quick they are to deploy and retract.

You can't go wrong with either. But if a solid feel is really important I'd go with the 707. As much as I love my M4 Ritter MiniGrip I just cant get past the plastic handles even though in reality it's a VERY strong knife. More than capable for it's intended use.

Just get both. haha

The mini is probably a better work knife due to the handle.
The sequel is a really solid little knife and has been made into some really nice gents folders in some of the limited editions.

I have a sequel 707-701 which was a limited edition with CF inserts and an S30V blade. If I had to choose only only one knife in my collection, and get rid of all the rest, this would probably be my first choice. Its a great design.
