Benchmade 710 in M390 steel

Does anybody have experience with this knife? Is it a buy?

Yes and yes. I have one in my pocket as I type this. The knife is built like a tank and the M390 steel is tough yet takes and holds a terrific edge without chipping out. I think you would love it.

My pleasure. If you like, let us know your impressions when you get it.

I wasn't entirely happy with mine when I received it and nearly returned theknife. The grinding of the edge was poor, on one side of the blade there is a prominent scratch in the grind marks and the pocket clip had very sharp, burry edges.

However, now I have rectified the poor edge and rough clip - and have learned to live with the scratch - the knife is one of my favourites.

bchan,

Like A.P.F. it's yes and yes for me as well. It's hands down one of, if not the best fitted and finished Benchmade I own.

Unless I'm mistaken--and I often am--they were a limited run for Knifeworks, 250 IIRC. If you can find one for a fair price it's a buy for the steel, the design itself and the limited production.

Benchmade has made several limited-run variations of the 710 over the years so it's not as if that alone is what makes it unique, but it is a less expensive way to get a 710 with M390 steel without paying the high price of the Gold Class version which has an M390 blade as well.

Best,

Heekma

FWIW, if you want to get into M390 for less, another vendor has a Mini-Grip LE in M390 for about half the price of the 710 LE.

The more I use mine the more I like them.

I like M390 better than ZDP, a lot better. :)

I tested it and result of my formal testing was same as for Buck110 with CPM S30V. It take 21st place in total testing list. So cutting performance overall is pretty average, however it is better then other Benchmades I tested - like 710 M2 - 34th place. So if you like best BM - this will be the one. But there are quite a few knives which perform better.

Thanks, Vassili.

I did not plan to buy this knife - I did not expect any good from Benchmade based on my previous testing, but Ankerson asked me to test it, so I did and now regret it.

I am getting the new TSEK with M390. That knife is gonna look sexy with its sculpted G10 handles, and the M390 will work just fine for me.
