Benchmade 710 Rattle

Good call that's what it is. I probably need to tighten the pivot screw but I like it where it is. It opens really easy.

It doesn't hurt anything and most don't notice such a rattle.

I drop of a rubbery glue in the crack of the joint between the pin and scales may quiet the rattle.

I just live with it, as it is hardly noticeable on the knives I own that have the rattle.

Tightening the pivot won't stop the stop pin rattling.

Some of my Axis Locks have a rattly stop pin when the knife is closed, but it doesn't bother me. Having a stop pin that is free to rotate spreads any wear around the whole circumference of the pin.

If the rattle bothers a user, it is quite easily fixed with a little dab of low-adhesion Loctite on the pin.

+1 Steven. Although I'd avoid using Loc-Tite or anything that would prevent the stop pin from rotating. It's supposed to do that. Rattling will not affect the performance of the knife.

...
It's supposed to do that.
...

That is an interesting sentiment.

Why is the stop pin supposed to be loose? I have a number of knives wherein the stop pin is held with a screw and other knives wherein the stop pin is a press fit, the stop pins in these knives don't move at all.

Benchmade simply chose a method of assembly that allows a looser stop pin but I see little advantage to such a design feature. It has been put forth that the screw attached stop pin is better, since it aids in keeping the knife together.

I have quite a few Benchmade axis locks, and my 710 is the only one that does this. I've been trying to figure out what it was -- thanks for the insight!
