Just found and ordered this one. It is the 710 with the aluminum scales instead of the G-10 scales. I like the idea of the steel liners and aluminum scales together as it ought to make for an extremely stout knife. The only improvement would be an aluminum backspacer. How does the aluminum model stack up against the G-10 model? Can you tell a weight difference between the two? It does have 154CM steel which is fine with me as 154CM has always done an admirable job for me.

After a bunch of use the G10 will always look better than metal of any kind. Also why carry the weight? No difference in lockup or"stoutness" in my opinion.Just more weight.

The weight is what I want though. No don't ask me why:eek: I think it's because I have always equated strength with weight. At any rate that is what I wanted to know. Thanks Randy.

710-SPL was gone:( Someone beat me to it by about 12 hours. Guess those are the breaks. Did find a perfect Buck/Strider large spearpoint though and that is the subject of another post!

I might be wrong, but I think G-10 is quite a bit stronger than aluminum. Composites can be super strong.

Strength does not necessarily equal weight.

The aluminum scale versions are cool, though. I'd like to have one someday.
