I bought mine around 1998 and in 2003 I was a Marine deployed in Iraq. My 710 didn't see anything crazy there but was invaluable for opening my MREs for meals. I nearly lost it in the sand of Kuwait before we invaded and ended up tying it via the lanyard hole to a belt loop with a couple feet of 550 cord. To this day it still wears a little loop of that 550 cord tied through it's lanyard hole. I sent it back to Benchmade to be sharpened via their Lifesharp service and asked that they don't disturb that 550 cord. It came back just as I asked and it still wears that little 550 cord loop in the lanyard hole to this day.

More pics! Less talk ;)

I had multiple plain jane 710’s over the years but these two are my favorite

The first Benchmade I bought was the 710. They offered the knife with two blade steels so I got the M2HS and ended up carrying it but never using it. I did once cut a tie on a Christmas gift for my grandson but that was all. Last year I decided to get a D2 steel 710 and use that one and still have not used the original.
I am so old that Benchmade was not in business when I was in the Airforce but some resident of Thailand is running around with a very nice Buck folder my wife bought me and was stolen from my locker. Oh well, life goes on.

My favorite Benchmade. After seeing Keyman's domed CF scales, I may have to contact him again...

I bought a 710 in 154CM and its little brother back in 2003 as my EDC. I carried it daily and eventually misplaced it and then forgot all about it...... Not until about 2 months ago did I find both of them in a box in my garage. Crazy!! and now I sharpened them both and the 710 is my main EDC.

I don't have any interesting stories to tell or pix to post. For years, I lusted for the venerable 710 but never got around to buying one. Over the years, I've bought a succession of expensive knives from Al Mar to ZT but mostly carried Spydercos and/or traditional slipjoints. Early this year I realized I owned every Spyderco I really wanted (actually, quite a lot of them). I also owned pretty much every model of every other brand that interested me other than Benchmade where I only owned a couple of models. So I jumped in and bought two of the D2 models--a satin plain edge and a black partially serrated. I was impressed and quickly hooked. The black coated model became my constant carry due to the narrow profile, thin girth, smooth operation and near perfect balance. Those serrations have been more useful than I thought they would.

Right now, I'm kind of in the middle of having a crush on the Stryder but the 710 keeps jumping into my pocket. It's one of my all time favorite knives and I plan to never be without one (or more).

It may just be the angle of the photo, but it looks like you ground the s-curve out of the blade. Is that the case or amI just not seeing the blade correctly?
Thanks, Frank.

I believe that is a 705 (or a 707) which is smaller, has no recurve and is often considered to be the 710's "little brother" (see quote below).

The 710 is my favorite folder. I've had lots of folders and lots of 710s... I currently have 2 in M390 (the original 710-2) not the -1401. I like the -2 better ... I've also had them in M4 and D2.... I have Keyman scales coming... :D And another surprise, when its done I'll post pics. :D

I think you are right the small one must be the 705 considering the age.... thanks.

I love the 710 series, own more than one as you can see. Older pics these, I own two more.
