Hey guys. I am looking into getting a 'nicer' folder that will last me a long time. Saying that, I came across two that I think are good candidates for that purpose. Let me know which one you feel is superior and why. Also, give me personal experiences on blade longevity, finish longevity, and if serrations are good (I only own non-serrated knives currently).

Option #1: McHenry Williams 710 SBKD2 partially serrated
D2 steel, modified clip point, G10 handles

Option #2: 940 Osborne SBK partially serrated
S30V steel, modified reverse tanto, aluminum handles

ETA: I currently own the following
EDC- Spyderco Tenacious, SOG Flash II, Kershaw Leek Damascus
Other folders- Buck 110, Buck 112
Fixed- US Navy MK1, Kinfolks hunting knife

Thanks!

940 because I just love that slim design. It is very light and comfortable. Non serrated for me, but that depends on what You are using it for.

Cant go wrong with any of those two. Good luck!

I've carried both at one time or another. The 940 carried nicer, has better steel but I have xl-xxl hands and it felt a little small. The 710 is a classic but felt like a kitchen knife and a little heavier but still carried slim. People will have a bit more surprise when you whip out its big blade. The handle on the 710 is slick and comfortable and neither of the knives will shred your pants. The 940 has more style and S30V has more rust resistance than D2. So I'd say depending on what you are going to use it for, how big your hands are, and what kind of folders you generally like to carry. The 710 felt a little sturdier, the 940 is a great slicer. I've gotten along quite fine with a Vic Pioneer and have left my customs in a drawer. I personally don't like coated blades or serrations.

I have both and like both. I honestly carry my 940 more. They are both great knives. The 710 is definitely bigger. Where the 940 is slimmer and more compact. So it's all in what you are looking for. I have had good luck with both steel types also. The S30V is going to be a little more stain/corrosion resistant than the D2. I have personally never had an issue with any of my D2 steel knives staining or corroding. I have friends that don't necessarily keep their blades very clean and they have had issues with their D2 staining. Either one would be a winner.

Oh hey I know get both. There problem solved :D.

Looks like we have similar tastes.

I'm headed to the local gun store soon. I'll see if they have either to try out. I guess, since there are so many mixed reviews, I'll need to handle both and decide from there.

710: a little bigger, heftier; at 3.9", the blade is a little longer than you might think.
940: a little lighter, smaller, a little less obtrusive in the pocket.

Benchmade recently sent me a free deep carry clip for my 940, which makes it even more awesome to carry.

Just pick what you like. They both cut stuff. No worries either way.

Ok so it seems the non-serrated version is the way to go. The gun store had about 30 Benchmade knives, but neither of the ones in question.

I did a quick google image search for comparison pictures and came up with the following......

You guys were right, they are basically 'different' knives. I thought the sizes were a lot more similar than different.

Looking at the images, I think the 940 Osborne catches my eye more, and would seem to be a better fit for me. I still want to handle one or both of them prior to spending that kind of money on a knife.

It's a personal choice - better if you can try them in person if possible. I have both and like both, but I prefer the 710. This may sound odd, but the 940 doesn't handle well for me - too much blade in a handle that's too small.
