Hi, guys. Is there a significant difference in the size (i.e. width) of the blade between the 710 and the 806? Does the 806 have a larger profile only due to the difference in the size of the handle? (I have an 806 but not a 710.)

Hi,

I chose the 710 over the 806 because the handle is about 1/2" shorter, the blade is available in M2 steel, and the 710 is a little lighter. The 806 closed is 5.43" according to the BM specs and the 710 is 4.90" closed. Makes a difference in ease of carry.

They are both outstanding knives. The finger cut out in the 806 and banana shaped handle are more ergonomic in many grips than the 710. I will probably end up with an 806 one of these days.

Well, I have chosen my 710 over the 806D2 mainly because it is more compact, offering as much knife as the 806D2 in a smaller package. It was a very hard decsion 'cause I do REALLY like the 806D2 and when I finally let my last one go, it kinda hurt... ;)

AFCK (M2) - General carry, and I may need to use it hard.
710 (M2) - General carry, particularly if no gun with me.

side by side: the AFCK and the 710 essentially have the same blade. the 710 has a slight recurve and the base but otherwise are pretty much identical.

handles: the AFCK is a little longer than the 710 and because of the 806's shape, it's less ergonomic than the 710 but tends to have a more secure grip.

i'm more of a 710 fan because i don't like the extra bulk of the AFCK.

Thanks, Benchmademan. You answered my question.

The design of the 710 also looks like it would give you better "thumb purchase" due to the thumb ramp.

I don't like the grip on the AFCK because I feel that my hand slides around a bit too much (within the limitations of the rather large index-finger cutout). I like a grip to be more compact (lengthwise) and "put" my hand in the right place.

The main difference (to me) between the 710 and AFCK is that the blade droops down at an angle on the AFCK. It's like a cross between the 710 and one of those spydercos.

I don't have the AFCK, but I've handled them a couple times. I'd like to get one of my own at some point, but I'm in no rush because I've got a 710 in my pocket at the moment.
What these guys said pretty much sums it up. Also, I think that they did a really great job with the blade-to-handle size ratio on the 710 -- the handle isn't longer than it needs to be to hold the blade, and it's still large enough to be comfortable. Very slim carry, too.

The thread is a blast from the past and memory lane. ;)

While I've always liked the BM806, personally and IMHO, the 710 design is the finest Benchmade has ever created. Yeah, I know that's saying much but it's such a well thought out blade design and in both M2 and M4, the 710 shines brightly.

When this recent limited production of the 806 in M4 became available, I stayed on the sidelines as the exorbitant price I found unattractive.

I picked up two M4 710's each for a lot less and coupled with the M2 that I EDC on occasion, these three will last me the rest of my life.

Some folks are smitten by the 806 design and I totally respect that.

The 710 in tool steel with the recurve drop point blade is simply a classic.

All that seems available now is the 710 D2 - but I still love it - great EDC! I also recently got the 760 - M4 - WOW!

Nice knives.

When I am not carrying my EDC CCW revolver, I usually don't have a knife, either, as I am either in bed, in the shower, or somewhere in between. My knives are tools.

the axis AFCK is a bit bigger, i have always preffered it to the 710 though, both are pretty good knives, i have always liked the AFCK in both axis and liner variations and have had a few of them thru the yrs,
