Just considering which blade to purchase next. I was wondering if someone who has any expierience with both of them could give me some information. Pros and cons on these blades will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well.....

The Benchmade has the Axis lock, not that i see anything wrong with a well made liner lock.

The commander has the wave if you need (or want) fast opening.

The commander is chisel ground on the "wrong" side for right handed users, and i don't like chisel grinds at the best of times.

Benchmade has had problems with quality control. Just do a search and you'll see what i mean.

So in a toss up..... I'm not sure. If you can handle both first that will obviously be a huge bonus.

Two great knives but if it were me...it depends:

For all out self-defense knife, I'd have to say the Emerson Commander just because of the "wave" opening which makes it faster than an automatic. It is such a clever feature that I wish other good cutlery manufacturers would license it from Emerson. To me, that ability to quickly open as you draw the knife makes-up in part for any potential hazards of using a liner-lock for a self-defense carry.

For all 'round knife, I'd go with the BM Axis 710. Even if it didn't have an Axis lock, it would still be a nice knife; particularly the smooth opening. However, the Axis lock takes an already good knife and makes it fantastic. Most of the QC problems revolves around the sharpening with complaints of uneven grinds. Just be a wise consumer and inspect the knife when you buy it. If you buy over the NET, make sure you ask the seller to check the grinds, and blade action/play before they ship it out and you'll be fine.

Of course, a BM 710 WITH Axis lock AND a "wave" opening would be Nirvana!

710

I love the Weehawk blade design.

The Commander is a great design, but it is a liner lock. The Axis lock is so much more reliable it overrides any other feature in my opinion.

Since I own both of them...

In short definitely 710 Axis.

710 has axis lock, I guess U've heard about that many times already

Much more convenient, easier, better & stronger than the liner lock.

If rust resistance is not a primary concern of yours, then go for 710 in M2.

Personally I prefer 710 blade geometry over EC.

To me EC chisel grind is definitely inferior to standart edge grind, even though you'll have to resharpen your 710 to get a decent edge.

I prefer normal thumbstuds on 710 over disk opener on EC, that eventually gets loose.

BM has torx screws not flatheads as EC does.

710 has a longer blade, that might be a plus or minus depending on your needs, donno

I've posted some more on my website about both knives. you can check there too.

710 does it for me!This knife was my number one carry knife untill I got my LCC (MT).I love them both. The 710 is smooth, strong, tip up,good blade to handle ratio and not a thin tipped knife which are all things I like. When I got it I said finally a knife with everything I want and nothing I don't.

id say go with the commander if you want a knife for self defense.
in ergonomics and speed it is the best.

for general utitlty, 710
