Yea yea, last in line to get one, but I finally got a Benchmade McHenry-Williams 710. This thing is AWESOME. I recommend one to anyone who likes Benchmades and can get by with carrying a larger-sized knife. I love the 940 also.

Opinions?

A great knife and a classic knife all rolled in to one! My opinion is that you now need to get you a 610 Rukus, with some of the optional grips and then you will be in high cotton!!

The 710 is a great knife, I have on clipped to my pocket right now.

I jsut wish I could find one of those old AFCK minis.

It's a big knife that's easy to forget about. Why I love it. The slight recurve, axis lock, g10 scales and d2 steel don't hurt either.

Yeah i liked the knife too, the recurve just did not do it for me though, i could not sharpen it even on a sharpmaker to the level i liked that inner curve just would not get sharp. I agree the definite next step would be to get one of the rukus models.

I'd be more inclined to the mini-Rukus but I am extremely impressed with this 710. I appreciate all the feedback. I, too, wish the AFCK and mini-AFCK were still in production.

I like the Mini Rukus better also. The 710 carries better, but that's the only thing I'd give to it over the 615. I loved the 615 when I had it, I'm probably going to buy one again some day. Unfortunately, I just can't get myself to like the 710. Looks like I'm a minority here.

ain't it sweet AE! Congrats.
now I'm starting to worry, I have my 710 same as all of you, and I don't have a Rukus and want one bad! is there some kind of subliminal message in our 710's programming us to the Rukus also!!

Too funny, Kaizen1.

I liked the 710, in that it carries very well for a knife its size. I rather it had a better finger choil or indentation, though. The mini-Ruk is very nice, but carries too big for my taste.

I got a 710 D2 a few months ago. I also have the 707, the Osborne Gaucho (NRA series) and the little 773, all with axis lock. I don't know why I held out so long on getting the 710. I had never seen one in person and there was something about the look that I didn't like in pictures. But now that I have one I am a true believer. It is now my exclusive weekend carry. It's big but it carries well in jeans.

I wish I could carry the 710, but my state limits folder blade length to 3.5". So I got a 943 instead. Wish I coulda had G10, though...

It's funny how everyone recommends the path from the 710 straight to the 610/615 model.

I guess it makes sense since thats the route i took...710 in M2 progressed to a 615 Mini-Rukus. I took a swing at the winewood scales as well and i'm currently looking into having some scales made in some other materials not offered by benchmade...another color micarta or maybe even walrus bone...

the 710 is an all-around superb knife...solid and functional.

The 710 is one of my favorite knives. I almost forget how much cutting edge there is, since it carries so well. And like everybody else, I got a Mini-Rukus not too long after. Both fantastic knives.

I have been searching everywhere for the little brother... 705. Dang it is hard to find.

What's a similar Benchmade knife that is a little smaller than the 710? I like the blade and G10, but want something a little smaller/lighter for EDC.

The new 930 Kulgera I think would be sort of like a 710. I'm thinking of getting one when they come out.

The Benchmade 705 if you can find one.

I carried a 710HS for many years of hard use, great knife. the best tactical folder ever made in my opinion. Actually useful, not just flashy. Great fit for my hand, great cutting performance once the edge is thinned out.

Mine actually has so much wear that the edge bevels are hiking up into the primary grind, and it needs to have a hollow relief grind added.

I have one, bought it ( if I'm not wrong ) in 2002 or 2003, in Germany. It was 400 DM ( ~200 USD ! ) but is a fine knife. long enough blade, but not "threatening"

I've had a 710 D-2 for several years now. It doesn't feel big to me. In fact, I removed the clip and just carry it as a pocket knife in slacks or a suit.

I also have a 610 Rukus that I carry with the clip when wearing jeans. :p

As much as I love the Rukus, if I could only keep one, it would be the 710 D-2! :)
