I bought a 710HS a while back so I thought I would share my opinion with everyone since nothing good is on the TV this night and I have nothing better to do. So, without further ado:
The Good:
The first moment you handle this knife it feels very good in the hand. Slightly heavy, rounded corners (on the handle that is), and a certain je ne se qua which conveys a sense of very high quality. The shape of the handle makes the blade sit very forward in the hand and this knife seems as if the blade is a good half inch longer than my Endura but according to the ruler the Endura's blade is 1/16 longer than the 710's. Opening the knife was a little rough at first, but after a month or so it became very smooth, I mean VERY smooth. Buttery is an understatement, this thing is like good cheesecake smooth. I have other axis knive and for whatever reason, this one is by far the smoothest.
The Neutral:
The fit and finish was pretty good but not exceptional - for instance the back spacer fits tightly against one liner but the corner is rounded against the other leaving a crevice, thare are a few others but you have to look pretty closely to find nits like these on this knife. The recurve of the blade is very slight and doesn't seem to perform any better or worse than a normally shaped blade.
The Bad:
The black finish wears to a dull grey which I did not like, so I sanded the knife down to a satin finish. Actually, I STARTED to sand it down, but it is taking forever. That M2 steel is so strong I'm not sure I'll ever finish.
But the biggest thing I do not like about this knife is the thumb stud configuration. When closed the thumbstud almost touches the frame and the studs are thinner than the frame so it is hard to open the knife as my thumb wants to slip off the stud unless I am carefull. At first it didn't bother me very much but as time goes on it is becoming a deal breaker. Lately I've been carrying a griptillian because I like it better. I know I shouldn't like it better, It is obviously a much lower quality knife (plasticy handle, softer steel) but I'll be damned if I don't prefer it. Maybe I'm crazy like they all tell me, I don't know.
