Benchmade 745 Liner Lock Adjustment

I have never tried to adjust a liner lock and was wondering if I could get some help.

The problem is with a first production BM 745. I think the lock is just slightly too long. It will not engage the blade all the way, and I have to relieve pressure on it by pushing the blade back for it to release cleanly.

Any thoughts on how to tune this would be great.

Thanks!

You mean the lockbar doesn't even sit flush with the left side of the tang when looking at it? If that's the case then I'm going to suggest a spine whack. Nothing heavy, just lock it open and give it a firm hit on a wooden surface, like a cutting board or workbench. I've managed to fix a few "iffy" linerlocks this way. If that doesn't work then you can either choose to live with it, or have the knife fixed, this will probably involve taking a bit of material off the liner, and unless you know "exactly" what you're doing I would send it back to benchmade first.

Actually, I just fixed it before your post. Using a magnifying glass I was able to see down into the guts and noticed a burr on the mating surface of the liner. I toothpick with a bit of 800 grit sandpaper glued to it with cyanoacrylate and about 10 min of rubbing and everything works great now.

Cool stuff, alot of times doing the spine whack thing will get rid of minor mating imperfections like that, any noticable metal removal though can often change the geometry of the lock surface in a way that causes it to be unreliable, so I don't usually recomend anyone try it themselves.
