Can anyone out there give me their opinion on the Benchmade 745 Mini-Dejavoo? I like the look of it, but I have seen and read some reviews about issues with the liner lock and closed blade retention.

Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

I had one. It seems to be well made as all the other Benchmades. It has a great full flat ground blade. Great for slicing. I guess you could call it a modern day Soddie. Good grip on that handle, nice and rounded. But in the end I traded mine for a Spyderco UKPK. Too bad that knife was not an Axis lock or I would probably still have it. I didn't have it long enough to really form an opionion one way or the other.

I just picked one up the other day and did notice the line issue immediately. But I found a review on youtube by bluntruth4u last night that provided a little trick to help strengthen the lockup and retention. It seemed to work pretty well and all you need is a post-it note!

i have the full size and its the smoothest folder ive handled. there is a new lum for 2010 with an axis lock and it looks pretty close geometrically to the 740.

I saw the vid about fixing it with the post it note, I like that it is an easy fix, but on the other hand I don't like the idea of having to fix something - they should just make it right in the first place. I wasn't sure if it was a common issue, or just 1 or 2 out there with lock issues. Thanks.

I own both 740 and 745 and have no problems with either. They're very solid and VERY sharp. I use my knives frequently in the kitchen and these are great slicers!

One thing: on the 740 the blade has a lot of mass. When single handed closing it keep your thumb out of the way...:)

I have also owned the 740 and like stated above it was the smoothest folding knife I have ever owned. It used one of the best line locks I've ever used and it had no play. I didn't use it all that much though. It was a hair too long for my city's legal blade length. I think it could be improved my adding jimping.

You can't go wrong with the dejavoos. BMs S30V takes a great edge. I haven't owned a 750, but I have handled one and it was the same as the 740 in every way except being shorter. Great knife, you won't be sorry.

Thanks for the responses, guys, those sound more positive for sure. Maybe I'll try to pick one to try it out.

I use a 745 since 2 years and I find that it is a very good knife, no problem with it. It have a very good edge retention and it is a very good EDC.

I was going to add a 740/745 to my line up put after seeing the model 741 benchmade is coming out for 2010, I think I am going to hold off for that model, IMO the 741 looks alot like a 740 mixed with a 800 and they threw in a AXIS lock to finish it up.. That does not mean I wont pick a 740/745 down the rd if the right bargain comes along.. Good luck with your choice..

It looks like a Bob Lum Forester with an AXIS lock to me. :)

Have the full size Dejavoo and it is the smoothest knife I've experienced; have thought about the mini and wouldn't hesistate to get one.

I have the 745 and have carried it just about every day since it arrived. It opens as smooth as butter and lock up and detent are perfect as well. However, I did ask the company I purchased from to check both for me before shipping as I had heard of quite a few others having issues.

Great knife, great ergos and it's the first BM I've held in years that makes me want to go out and get more of them.

There were some detent issues with the 740, due to a heavy blade. I haven't heard any complains regarding the 745.
