So gentlemen and ladys this is my first post on the forums and I figured you could help me out. I just got into knives and I am particularly sweet on Benchmades. So my problem is I can't decide on whether I want the 760 LFTI or the Sabrosa, im too late for the skirmish:grumpy . I really just like to fondle and have cheaper knives to carry but re-salebility is always a factor in my decisions as well as looks. So which of these two knives do you prefer and feel could hold their value or go up the way the Skirmish models have if at all. I like both but usually don't go for tanto's. Thanks

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

:o

Welcome! This is a great site with a lot of very knowledgeable members.

I don't have experience with either of the two knives you are looking at but I am interested in hearing more about the 760. Not sure why it isn't a super popular knife:

-Ti frame lock (monolock)
- 4" of M4 steel
- Lums designed

All of that plus an excellent price point. I would love to try one out.

Cheers!

I have the 760, I really like it. It's a bit large to edc but it's also fairly light at around 5.3oz IIRC and in a slim profile design. People talk crap on tantos but this one is different, check out how the edge has a nice constant curve to the tip. Even its "second point" isn't an abrupt one like you see in most other tanto designs, it will cut very well and I use mine for all sorts of things. Mine was rock solid and the lock bar has plenty of room for wear. I recently saw somewhere this model has been discontinued, if it is I'd like to pick up another on the forums here. Good luck with your decision.

I'd go with the Subrosa because of my own personal preference of liking a drop point more than a tanto blade.

Also, I'd try and get a Skrimish if you can, worth every penny IMO!

Carrying Subrosa for about a year. Perfect knife, slim, light and pretty. Nice EDC. For re-sale LFT is better.

Welcome to Bladeforums!!

Neither would be a bad choice. I've got a 760 in my pocket today and a Subrosa at home that I carry quite often so have experience with both. That being said the Subrosa is an assisted opener with good belly to the blade. The 760 is a tanto and uses M4 steel. Both are set up for tip down, right side carry only and both are "discontinued". The only issues I've had with mine are a somewhat weak detent on the 760 and the pivot screw coming loose on the Subrosa. A little teflon tape on the screw took care of the Subrosa.

If I could only have one I'd probably go with the 760. I like the steel and it's just a great looking knife. On the other hand if I were to do it over again I'd still buy both as they are both excellent knives.

P.S. The clip on the Subrosa allows for deeper carry than the 760. Not a deal breaker for me though I prefer the deeper carry on the Subrosa but still another point to consider.

I'd go with the Lum as it's just recently been discontinued. I sold mine a long time ago and have regretted it ever since. As stated: 4" of CPM-M4 steel and because of the Ti frame it carries very light.

And welcome to the forums!

The 760 has been on my want list for almost a year. I tell myself I'll get it and to this day nope....still no LFTi. The 760 just looks baddass! 4 in blade with a tanto point and a belly and it being a lum design is also a win! I have 2 other BM Lum models and are perfect in everyway. Get the 760, you'll love it! And welcome to Bladeforums man! You'll love it here!

The 760 looks more interesting to me, partly because I don't like recurve blades that much and also partly because the Subrosa has too much cutesy design work on the scales.

Had a 760 but I sold it. As a user I'd prefer the 760, as I prefer manual folders to AOs. Hated the clip position on the 760, close to a third was sticking out of the pocket. Action was okay, had to have a litte side to side in mine to get it where I want it. The cool thing about the 760 and the 755 mpr is the hexagonal stop pin, it allows you to rotate it to adjust for lock wear. My 760 was SUPER sticky though, worse than any ti framelock I've ever handled. Overall, I got mine for about $180. Never really use it cause it just couldnt kick my sebenza or my smf out of my pocket. I think itd be a good workhorse kinfe however if you choose to use it.
The subrosa was nice, handled a few. Dont care for recurve blades much though, and not a huge fan of AOs, the only ones I'll consider are the flippers from kershaw/zt. Pretty standard materials though, s30v, ti.
If I had to reccomend one I'd say go for the 760 as thats the one i bought. Just make sure to oil that blade every now and then. However, if you want a benchmade ti framelock, also check out the Bradley Alias if you havent already. The one I handled was super smoothe with no play and disengaged with no stick at all. Id consider it a substantially better knife than the two benchmades, and its made by benchmade for bradley. Just my 2 cents. Welcome to bladeforums!

I'd go with the Lum as it's just recently been discontinued. I sold mine a long time ago and have regretted it ever since. As stated: 4" of CPM-M4 steel and because of the Ti frame it carries very light.

Hmmm. Didnt know that. Maybe I shoulda held onto mine lol

Thanks guys! I bought both but if I had to get rid one somewhere down the line it would be the Subrosa. Im not much of a tanto guy either but I just had to own LFTI. Those of you that mentioned that I should find a Skirmish, I agree 100% but those are now selling anywhere from $300 to $500 and that makes one a pipedream for me now.

Yes, very recently discontinued. They are still available from a few places but Benchmade is no longer producing them. I hear you, I really wish I held on to mine. It was a first production too.

Oh well, that's life though...

I say, if you like it, can afford it, and can find it, then get it!

I bought the 760 despite the Tanto edge and black blade - mainly due to the M4 blade steel. I like it - love my Skirmish knives, two regular 630's and a 635 mini, more. The 790 Subrosa, S30V Ti framelock and all, looked like a middle sized/less flashy Skirmish model - had to have it. I missed the part about it being 'assisted' - a function I am not so fond of. And... the 790 has an 'ambitious' assist, at that. I didn't carry it much - until last year, when I 'de-assisted' it. It's simple to do - dissect the knife and remove the roller pin that spans between the two torsion springs and rubs against the blade. Take care to not mix the PB washers or torsion springs - they are position, ie, proper side, sensitive. In my mind, my 790 is the way it should be... a proper thumb-assist open knife - with a decent undeployed detent, too.

A belated welcome to the forums here - and Benchmade knives. There is a Benchmade forum - accessed via the company's site.

Thanks Stainz. Im not minding the "nitro assist" its the recurve of the blade that bothers me a little but im trying to overlook it. I envy your Skirmish collection, I prefer the the fullsize but I wouldnt kick the small version out of my collection.

If this is necro-threading please PM and i'll delete but I got a subrosa about a week ago. I went to the knife store and played with it a few times and I wasn't 100 percent sure. It felt a little to tight almost. I didn't feel like I could fire it comfortably. However it felt incedibly light and locked up very tight. After about three days it finally felt broken in. Fires easily, but stays closed reliably. Very comfortable still, carries great. I use it as much as I can. This is by no means my first benchmade. But it is without a doubt my favorite. I carry it at the office, and its not to big or obtrusive. I sadly don't get to use it as much as I'd like. But I wouldn't put much past it. I would feel comfortable using it for medium outdoor use and definitely as a means of self protection. I couldn't be happier with this knife.
