Just learned about the BM 770 recently and managed to pick one up on the secondary market. With all the reading I do here and elsewhere, I never saw or heard of one before a week or so ago. This model was seemingly not produced very long and I guess never caught on. I like 3" knives, so it something that interests me. One thing about it that is different from all other axis locks I own is that all the hardware is smaller, i.e. thumb studs, axis lock, pivot pin, etc. No parts will interchange with this model to others based on my observation. It's a neat little knife and adds something different to my small collection.

What do you guy think of the BM 770?

That is really a nice knife. I admit, I just learned about this model as well. Can you flick it open easily as the regular size Axis lock folders?

Yeah. I see no difference in my ability to function it. I have medium/large hands (glove size). Action and lock-up is typical of all my other axis locks.

I saw that in the exchange and thought for a moment that it was a new ZT 0770 with CF scales and then looked it up to find the exact same thing - looks awesome to me, why aren't there more of them?

I think alot of folks, like myself, look for symmetry. Reminds me of an icepick, that may be one reason for its lack of popularity.

Yes the blade height is low in comparison to the handle, but likely not much more so than the infamous 710.

It's an old design that was discontinued a few years go to make way for other models. There are at least 4 different variations of it.

I've always loved this knife, but they have been discontinued 10 years or so.

I have the newer version of it. It's has rounded contours instead of glossy flat sides.

It's a nice little knife for sure.
Here's the 5 handle types. Nevermind that 470 in there.

Wow, I never knew there were so many variations. The red and black is nice. I bed the newer rounded scales are a little more comfortable. I like the look of the rounded scales vs the flats. I wish BM would put some file work (it's likely molded; I can't really tell) on other axis locks. It's unique to see it on this little knife; at least for me. The BC1 coating is a nice plus. How does it hold up against wear? Why is it not used as much? EPA regulations?

Thanks for all the good responses.

Nice looking knife. Has anyone had any issue with the one screw clip? I think the overall look is just what has already been stated, a beautiful Gents folder. Great find and thanks to all for sharing.
Frank.

It's on the Exchange if you're interested. ;)
It is? It looks so cool

This just looks like a non assisted 470 to me?

EDIT: never mind I found it, sorry im new there must be a auto date cut off set somewhere by default.

Is it ok if I actually used it or is it to rare for that? lol

That knife with the CF scales is beautiful, especially with the BC1 coated blade. I have a 470-1 and really like it and the design is similar, but the hardware, CF scales, and backspacer make the 770 much more attractive IMO. I'd love to find one for sale.

You wi not all the variations so at some point it was popular. Given that Benchmade makes all their own knives you gotta cut some knives loose when demand slows or else you can't make new ones that will sell better. I got to be honest. I have owned hundreds of Benchmade knives but never this knife. Not for lack of trying mind you. Always loved the red/black splash.

It's quote unique in that it has a smaller axis lock and smaller thumb studs. Like a mini-axis. I especially like the accents (filling) on the lock, studs, and pivot. The back spacer is quite nice too. I did however relinquish it to a good friend at work because he appreciated it as much as I did. His first Benchmade and probably first quality folder. I have a tricked out M390 707 Sequel, so I want left with a more than adequate substitute.
Thanks for all the interest.

Not quite the same, but Warren Osborne designed them both, so the similarity makes sense.
I just don't like the handles (on the 470-1 too) It looks like your index finger should go in the thumb stud notch then your next 2 fingers in the longer cut out section with your pinky left, but due to the knifes small size only 1.5 (so 1) extra finger fits in the cut out so your ring and pinky fingers are left sliding off the back.

Of course after I buy my Emissary they make a 3.5" and raise the prices :(
