I just noticed the BM 770 Special Edition with the green handle and D2 steel at Benchmade's website. Does anyone know if they are planning on doing anything similar with the 705?

Yes and no.

At the last SHOT show, among the models for future release was a limited edition 705 with D2 steel, alum. grip with CF inserts (as I recall). Still not out yet, to my knowledge.

I bought a Mini-Grip last month which has 440C. And I would like a knife with a little better edge holding capability. Nothing wrong with the 154CM though. I just wonder if I should hold off for the D2. If the production of 705s with D2 is limited to 500 pieces, I bet the sell for a premium.

If they do, it will be a limited edition.

The only limited edition 705 I heard of from SHOT was S30V/Ti/G-10.

Do you know how S30V compares with D2 for holding an edge?

Oh boy....

Well, the word is that S30V is the current stainless super-steel. Doesn't corrode, holds its edge better than any other stainless steel, while still being easy to sharpen once it does dull.

Specifically in relation to D2, S30V is supposedly tougher than D2, stays sharp longer, is more stain-resistant, and easier (?) to sharpen. The only experience I have with it is a big honkin' Simonich Aurora. I can say that knife is tough as nails, has stayed very sharp through all the chopping I have put it through (not an insignificant amount), and hasn't stained one bit.
