I recently picked up a model 770 Osborne in green/black G10. The blade is marked as a prototype, 2003, in D2 steel, and came in a nice presentation case. This model is discontinued, and I don't see where it ever made it into full production in a D2 blade. It is a nice, small EDC pocket carry axis lock, and very smooth. My question is- is it collectible? I have been resisting the urge to carry it. Are prototypes good or bad? Stop me before I open a box.

IMHO---prototypes would be collectors. i would open it and fondle it but never carry it! just have fun with it :D

Damn, I guess I may have to set this one aside and look for another. Thanks for the answers.

Congrats you got a nice little knife, typically there are only about 50 benchmade prototypes made of one particular model. I would say keep her mint.
