Benchmade 805 TSEK

I currently carry a four inched closed folder in a soft pouch on my uniform gear, either a Benchmade 555, 556, 705, Spyderco Delica or Calypso Jr.
I'm looking for a larger knife for my fire jacket. At the moment I carry a plain edged ATS-55 Delica in it.

I'm considering the Spyderco Endura, Spyderco Military, Benchmade 710 and Benchmade 805 TSEK.
The knife will have to be easy to open AND close with leather working gloves on. I know that this will be no problem for the Endura or Military - but what about the thumbstuds and axis lock of the Benchmades?

Photos of the knives "in hand" would be appreciated.
Cheers guys

Steven, would a fixed blade be out of the question? Ihe reason I ask is that under that kind of pressure, I personally wouldn't want to deal with opening a folder, especially when you factor in gloves.

For me, I carry & use folders exclusively, but I don't have the same needs as you. You probably have good reason for your choice, but I just got to wondering.

I have a pair of 805 TSEKs and they do snap open very easily, where you don't NEED to use the thumb-studs. The pivot tension is fully adjustable.

The 805 is an excellent folder, and it IS my favorite...However, if you can carry a fixed-blade, the Benchmade 145 Nimravus Cub IS worth a look.

Thanks guys. I don't really like the oval hole and black blade of the 806.
I have considered a fixed blade, but have decided against it.

I'm leaning towards the TSEK. Glockman could you please post a pic of your TSEK next to your 556? I'd appreciate it.

I carry a TSEK as my EDC. I really love this knife! The blade is heavy enough that virtually no effort is needed to just 'snap' the blade open. Since it is 440C, sharpening is a breeze compared to my osborne axis or my Random Leek (which is S30V). I feel that even though the 440C doesn't hold an edge quite as long as 154CM or S30V, its ease of sharpening balances that out. Don't get me wrong, though; 440C still is way above average in my opinion. It wouldn't have been around as long as it has if it wasn't! :D

I would check out the Spyderco police. It combines the great Spydie ergos with a great flat-ground VG-10 blade. The VG-10 has better edge retention and just as easy sharpening. Plus, lockback is stronger than the millie's linerlock and can be closed with one hand.

WHY would you bring up a 5 year old thread?

I find that my mini and large Griptillian (axis lock) folders are just about as easy to open and close with gloves on as with bare hands. Of course a lot depends on how heavy your gloves are, but with the mid weight deerskin work gloves I use--no problems .

Being a first time poster on BF he probably arrived here searching for some stuff on google and just felt the need to write down his thoughts without looking at the time stamp of the original post. Well I could be wrong, though.

I sure that's the reason he resurrected this old thread.

It's just funny because the TSEK isn't really a purchase option anymore. It has been discontinued for several years, making the whole thread a bit irrelevant.

My old thread! Since I made that post I have bought all of the knives that I was considering!

I currently carry a 550-HG Grip in my fire jacket, and a CPM M4 Rift in a pouch on my uniform belt.

Talking of the TSEK, which I consider to be the best large folder ever, there has been a limited edition run in S30V and CF for a Russian knife forum:
