Does anyone own either of those models? Are their G10 scales rough or smooth? Are the satin finishes silvery or ceramic? Which one is better overall? The 710 looks like it has a more versatile handle (no deep indentation like in the 805)... thoughts?

I have owned both, and for all-around work I prefer the 710. The 805 can do general utility work also, but I think it is a better SD folder. If Benchmade would re-introduce the 805 with a better blade steel, I think they would sell a ton of them, but I don't think it will happen.

The G-10 handles are fairly grippy but they won't tear your pants up like some others (Strider) will. If they are too rough you could always knock down the texturing a bit with some sandpaper.

The finish on both of them (older 154CM 710 and 440C 805) was a nice satin finish, not like the ceramic type on the newer Emerson that I have. I kind of prefer the satin type as I can always touch it up if it gets scratched up too bad.

Although i cannot comment on the finish of the blade on the 710 since i have the coated M2 version, i can say that it is my go-to folder for just about everything. It's just a very practical knife with grippy G-10 handles, axis lock and plenty of cutting edge.

The g-10 is rough if you comapare it to the g-10 on a Kershaw Leek, but not quite as rough as the Strider as mentioned before.

The 805 has its qualities as well so i don't think you can go wrong either way.

I own both. The 710 is one of my very favorites; I thought I'd looove the 805, but in truth, it really hadn't grown on me.

The 710's G-10 is fairly smooth. Not polished, it has some texture; but it's not as grippy as, say Spyderco's textured G-10. The 805 seems a bit rougher, but that could just be because I've used the 710 a whole lot more!

Both of mine have satin-finished blades. The 710 has a slightly shinier finish, but both are quite nice looking.

The 710 packs the same edge length in a much more compact grip than the 805. The latter has the pivot set far back from the front of the handle, which makes for a better-supported pivot I suppose, but the 710 seems just as stable. There's no blade play in either.

The 805's grip has that deep finger choil, which makes it a bit more secure, but I find the 710's handle to be more versatile, more comfortable in various grips. The 710 also carries easier; the 805's "big black banana" shape takes up a lot of pocket, and it ends in a point that can be rather, er, uncomfortable in snug jeans.
