Benchmade 810 Contego - What about the Cerakote?

I've experienced the BM blackened blades and I'm not impressed with it. I've seen DLC coatings and like those better.

I'm thinking about getting the BM 810 Contego (love the reverse tanto and have been itching to try M4), but what are your experiences with Cerakote? I'm assuming the clear coat (not yet available) will basically be invisible, but will the black wear out like the cheap coating BM usually uses? Is Cerakote their standard blackening process?

All input is welcome!

It performs very well on guns, one of the best coatings out there for firearms.

Benchmade was using, and still may, a black teflon coating, identified by the letter's BT. This may be the coating you are referring too. It is soft compared to the DLC, BC, and Cerakote coatings, and will scratch easily. I think the DLC is probably the hardest coating, but doesn't always look evenly spread, with lighter areas showing. The Cerakote, and my 275' ( 3 for me, and 2 for my son )are my only experience with it, but all 5 of the 275's that have passed through my hands have been excellent in the coverage of this ceramic based coating.

Impressive. I usually don't like black blades, but if the coating is very good, I may just get it to try it out!

As an updated, I got my Contego yesterday and put it right to work. I broke down some boxes and for fun, shred them a bit to test out the Cerakote and edge.

I think I like the DLC better, but the Cerakote seems ok so far. I don't see this coating lasting super long since I can already see some abrasion on the coating...but I'll give it more time before passing final judgement. Maybe I'm just wearing out the soft "overcoat" and the undercoat will last longer...we'll see. After all, these same boxes were scratching my my PM2 in M390 as well (much more faint than the Cerakote of course).

I will say, the knife carries quite comfortably IWB because of the deep carry clip. Surprising for such a large and edgy knife.

Please don't hesitate to tell us how the Cerakote holds up over time. It's supposed to be quite good but doesn't yet have much real-world use info with knives. I'm sure a lot of people are curious how this ultimately ranks compared to other blade coatings..

Benchmade's BT (not cerakote) is easily one of the worst black finishes I've ever owned. Wears way to easily, even against cardboard.

DLC is an excellent coating. I know the Spartan blades I've owned had a DLC coating and held up better than any finish I've encountered yet

The DLC is hard to beat. I'm waiting for the clear coat Cerakote. You know, DLC does not offer rust resistance, but Cerakote must since BM is using it to coat the M4 blade of the Contego.
