I was at my local knifeshop today and I happened to see a AFCK 812 with a tanto. I know that Benchmade released 135 of the tanto 800's, but I've heard nothing about the mini having a tanto.

Any responses would be greatly appreciated,
thanks.

Now that is strange. I'd never heard of such an animal, but that's not to say it wasn't some special production thing like the BM800BT AFCK Tanto.

If you would, please post or email me with the name and location of the knife shop you visited. I'd like to pick up such a rare find if possible. Thanks.

Professor.

OK, wait a minute, an 812 tanto, I also have never heard of that being produced. Send me the information as well Via email. I really would love to aquire it. Thanks

All the knives in the world go round and round, round and round, round and round...DAMN, one of them took my wallet !!! :)

C'mon guys, I just asked if anyone knew anything about the knife. I asked this because I was still deciding whether to get the knife myself. However, if I don't pick it up, I'll make sure to post the address and phone number of the shop.

BTW, to Prof and DN, you guys are willing to fly to Wisconsin just to get a mini-tanto AFCK?

I've been doing some reading this morning to see if there was any information I could give you. I can't find any reference to it having been created, doesn't mean it wasnt. If Benchmade just did a highly limited few as a sales test, then its possible Benchmade was able to keep it quiet.

Checked many websites with post-show information, no mention of it, and all the other collectors sites I know, only have references to the standard 800 tanto proto, and the HK 800 tanto proto. If you were thinkning of getting it, dont hesitate, GET IT

If it truly is an 812, this is not a knife to let go.

Fred: I know for sure it wasn't a 905. I have both the mini-stryker and the mini-AFCK, and it was neither.

DN: What really struck me as odd was they allegedly received the knife two days ago. Now if the 800 tanto was released a while ago, why would they just get in a 812 tanto? I am nearly positive that this store is not a "official" benchmade retailer because they do not mainly specialize in knives. I could be wrong though. The blade also had no HK logo on the front of the BT coating, but I forget to check the back for any prototype numbers.

It's hard to say. BM surprised me with the 800 tanto; they just started showing up in circulation before anyone knew the scoop about the NICA re-release of the older HK prototypes.

It could very well be a production oddity that went to a select few dealers. If you can, pick it up! It should be highly collectible. As far as the flying thing, I would more likely just call and offer extra money to the fella to have it shipped

. We didn't mean to swarm in on you; it's just that us BM collectors are a little eccentric ourselves, and discovery of such a rarity as this gets the blood pumping. Such simple pleasures excite with age. Please let us know what more you discover.

PS... You might try asking Travis at Benchmade. His email address is at their website and their forum.

Thanks to Professor and Dark Nemesis. I've decided to go pick it up on Monday when they open. Hopefully, if I am lucky, it'll still be there. If they still have it when I pick it up, I'll make sure to post pictures of it.

Prof. is right, we didn't mean to swarm in on you. I get that way when I dont take my pills

Good luck and I hope they still have it for you. Can't wait to see the pictures. Yes, Travis would be a great one to consult. If theres a BM im not sure about he always confirms the legitimacy for me. He's a great guy.

Thanks for the advice on emailing Travis. I have on several occassions contacted him. I had already emailed him 2 days ago, but I don't think he responds to questions on weekends.

And don't worry about swarming me, I perfectly understand why you and Prof would.

Got a phone call from a local purveyor yesterday and am supposed to pick one up today, so I'd say these are in production on a limited basis at least.

Benchmade 812SBT-06/00. Knife of the Month for June. Supposedly 500 pieces. BT2 Coated Tanto Point blade. Point is a little elongated, approximately 1 1/4" secondary point to tip. Nice little knife.
