Hey guys,
I've been looking to buy a new EDC blade to replace my Drifter, she's served me well and it's a nice little knife but it's time for an upgrade to something with tip up carry and thicker scales. After looking around I decided I wanted to spoil myself a bit and get my first high end knife. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Mini-Grip 556 or Mini-Barrage 585. I like the heftier, quality sort feel of the 585 but I'm iffy about the A/O, the last A/O I EDC'd was a cheapo chinese flea market folder (before I found this website of course) that wore out pretty quickly and lead to blade play. While I don't expect that from a new Benchmade at all, I'm one to trust simpler proven designs such as the plain old axis lock on the grip. Otherwise I'd say I like the looks of both blades with a slight nod to the 585 from a purely superficial standpoint.

Yesterday though I found an ad on Craigslist for a Benchmade 890 Torrent listed for $40 (talked him to $35  ) nice enough knife at an equally nice price that I clicked to check it out.
Turns out it's also a first run, 517/1000. It was described as like new and barely used and also looked to be in good shape based on a couple fuzzy pictures.
Here lies the dilemma. I could get this knife purely because it's fun and sort of a collector's piece. I would carry it occasionally for light use, such as opening packages but mostly it would be for show and flipping open and close while watching football on Sunday. It doesn't really fit the role I originally set out to fill. Part of me feels like I'd be an idiot for buying a knife that doesn't fit my present need, another part of me feels like I'd be an idiot to pass on any First Run BM model for the price of a Skyline.

What would you do in my shoes here? I'm thinking I might buy the Torrent and try to sell it for a profit (so I can buy more knives and knife things of course) :D

The 890 is tip down only, from the factory. Beautiful knife. May help your decision however. 585, a little bulky for the size, great knife mind you. The 890...tip up/liner lock. Ive had both (35 bucks, buy 'em both)
