I was in a store today looking at knives and the clerk pulled me aside and said he had something he knows I’m gonna buy. It was a Benchmade 913 plane edge in D2. Since it was only $62.50 of course I bought it.

I’ve only had it for about an hour but here are some of my first impressions.

1. The AO is nice and strong, and the mechanics behind it seems to be different then the other AO knives I own.

2. The thumb studs seem huge and allow me to get a great perchance when opening the blade. Perfect for the AO I think.

3. The pocket clip is nice but I wish it could be changed to tip up carry.

4. With the strong AO its just a little hard to close with one hand but I’m thinking all I need is some practice.

5. The G10 is nicely done, a little smooth but it feels nice and gives me decent grip.

6. The Blade shape and length are almost perfect. Plenty of belly but not so much that its hard to sharpen.

7. I like D2 and have had very good luck with the steel, blade staining has never really been a problem. All it takes is just a little care.

8. For a Benchmade the thumb ramp is great, and offers a really good purchase. It should allow me to control the knife really nicely.

9. The liner lock seems very good. Decently think and locks up solidly.

10. For $62.50 I think its hard to go wrong with it and impossible to pass up.

Since until about an hour ago this knife was so far off my radar I had never really considered it. I was wondering of anyone here who has one and has put some use on they’re could tell me how they like it. How it holds up to long term use.

Great price for a very nice knife. I own both 913 and 907 models, these are good designs, strong and easy to open. Yours will smooth out with opening and closing cycles, just a drop of your favorite lube oil on each side of the Nitrous roller and on the pivot washers should help to smooth things out as the knife gets worked in. Again, good deal!

And I just came in to buy some honing oil.

I don’t suppose you know how much it weighs. I’ve been looking around and have found two different specs for that. Or how long the actual cutting edge is?

Does anyone here have any issues with the thumb studs? They seem to be ripping up my thumbs. Granted since it’s a new knife I’m playing with it a lot. But I let my friend look at it and after one time he said that the stud was ripping into his thumb.

I don't have a Nitrous Stryker, or anything with its type of thumb stud, but I've had other types of thumb studs rip into my thumb a little bit. Mostly it's just a matter of getting used to the knife, and possibly building up callouses. Also, from what I've read, the thumb studs (and opening in general) are much harder on you if you don't push the studs at about a 45 degree angle out from the handle.

Nice knife, though, and I'd be tempted to get a BK coated plain edge.

Thanks, lol and I thought I already had calluses.

Its not coated(which I prefer), but it is plain edge.

Those large 907-12-13 studs work well on the BM 710.
If you have a 710 try swapping them out.

The Nitrous Strykers work well with smaller 710/Griptilian sized studs.
They also work well with the slighter smaller BM Mini-Grip sized studs.
Experiment!

I’ve just learned how to use photo bucket and am practicing my very limited skills. I figured I’d add a few pictures of my 913. Sorry for the poor quality.

Here it is next to my 615, it has about the same foot print but is a bit thinner.

D2 blade, titanium liners, and G-10 scales for $62.50. I call that a win.

50% off, I may be out of a job but when the knives when down that far I had to take what money I could spare and grab some while I could. Also Got an Endura for $30, a ZDP Endura for $49, a Benchmade 12800 for $45, and a Junk Yard Dog II for $26. I May be poor as all get out now but I don’t think I’m gonna regret buying those knives at those prices.

Jimmy Cricket! A Nitrous Stryker for $62.50 is a steal. If you turn around and sell it here for $80 it'll be gone in no time.

I might do that. Lost my job and in about 8 hours I’m gonna be sleeping in my car. Still selling the knife collection that has taken more then 10 years to build is gonna be my very last resort.

about two weeks after I bought my 912 tanto it got plenty of vertical play. To the point of it rattling when i shake the knife up and down.
