I am looking for a knife in the 3.5" range for EDC. I think I have narrowed it down to the Benchmade 913D2 or the 14205. I have not yet handled the 14205 but I have looked at the 14210 (smaller version) and the 14200 (rubber grips). I like the idea of assisted opening but I think the axis lock and 154CM may be better features. Any thoughts?

I've got both and really prefer the 14205. After carrying an original Stryker when they first came out, I was really excited when the 913 was announced, but was kind of dissappointed with the actual knife. The plastic thumb-studs and the large finger cut-out aren't nearly as nice as the original, and the AO is only so-so. The 14205 on the other hand is a little heavier, more ergonomic, and just a little classier all around. That's the one I'd recommend unless you want to keep the weight down.

I like the 913D2 so much that I bought 2 of them.

Different strokes for different folks...

Cole, I just got your 913D2 and think highly of it. Once dialed in, the AO function works very well. The Nitrous mechanism is a great design that's going to be around for awhile. When new, It needs to be opened and closed for a couple of weeks to break in but once that's done, it's easy to use. I push my thumb on the stud and it fires right out!

But here's the deal between the two...I've had the 14205 for a couple of months and it's the one I go back to. It's a little on the heavy side, as the liners weren't drilled like on the 710. But for a little more than $100 you get AXIS, 154CM, flat G-10, open design, and one of the smoothest knives I've yet owned.

The 14205 is my pick!

It looks like both knives are well received but perhaps the 14205 is a little better. I am a little worried about the D2 rusting up on me since I do hunt and have often used my knife in the field and not been able to clean it up until later. How does D2 get along with blood?

I 2nd that. I've got the 14205 in my pocket right now. Honestly, I don't know why this knife hasn't taken off more than it has. One of the best all arounders I've come across.

I had the 14200 and thoght the same thing, except it was a little too bulky and heavy for me. The 14205 is lighter and more slender, and I think is the perfect size. It's definitely got some heft to it, but it is a serious tank. I think it's got to be one of the strongest folders, with stiffest handle construction on the market. I firmly believe it's stronger than the Spyderco Manix, which is another of my favorites.

I'm thinking about trying the 913,too.
Can anyone of the owners tell if the two griphalfs are symetrical in the area of the fingerchoil/linerlockpurchase.Without an asymetrical cutout like the military for example?

Thanks,Alex
