I just picked this one up at my local knife store. I've been wanting one for a while, but I've strayed away from Benchmade for almost a year now. It's a very nice knife. It has nice blue handles with cool etchings in them, a good-sized S30V wharncliffe blade with an axis lock and a little 440 slipjoint on the back which makes the knife very useful, and it's pretty light and thin. The ergonomics aren't bad, but they could be better. I guess I'm just too used to the grand ergonomics of the Griptilian.
I'm also looking at the Resistor axis and the Skirmish. Any opinons on these?

The 921 makes a super EDC. I have one and it finds it's way with me on a regular basis.
Don't have any info on the other knives as yet, but BM sure has some real nice stuff coming out shortly. After the Blade show--who knows?? ;)

Been carrying my 921 for a little over a month. Just hit it with militec-1 last night... screw auto's & assists, this thing scares me as to speed right now.

The thin smooth handle took me about a week to get used to after carrying a spydie military for over a year in the same spot. My only problem is the edge holding of bm's s30v is slightly below that of spyderco's s60v(meaning a weekly touchup with my cutting at work).

The slipjoint blade is great for the mundane and heavily sheeple'd tasks(mail, packages, nail cleaning).

Between the dual thumbstud and ambi-axis lock, this is about as leftie friendly as they come without being a leftie knife.:D

It's a lefty knife. It arrives with the clip on the right as an homage to tradition. The 921 is my favorite Benchmade.

ah, but what keeps it a right-handed knife is that the knick for the thumbnail in the small blade is right-hand dedicated.

Ok, I've noticed that the big blade isn't centered when closed, but it's not rubbing the side. Any knife that isn't centered when closed bugs me, even if it's a really cheap one. So, can I fix it? I'm afraid to mess with the pivot screw bc of the locktite, and since I lubed it with White Lightning the flip action is perfect. I have a friend who adjusted his pivot screw and added locktite and it still comes loose. I think this may be the first axis lock knife I've seen that isn't centered when closed, but I could have easily not been paying attention to others. Anyway, send it to Benchmade, leave it, what?

Word of caution on the smaller blade, close it by hand, meaning all the way down slowly, since just releasing it will make it snap down too far and you'll flatten the middle of the edge against the spacer below, even though it appears to clear by a wide margin, the sudden snap makes it go lower. I've seen this on the several that have come into my possesion. I've used that smaller blade for more delicate chores as well as the letter/box and such stuff, it's a handy blade to have but take care on closure.

No response to your other problem, never noticed that or it wasn't much of an apparent problem to be concerned with at the time...sorry on that point, but do agree, it's is a very handy knife overall. I do miss mine a lot :(

I've never understood what the real advantage of auto knives with the extra spring loaded wiggly bits and weight have over a well tuned Axis equipped manual BM. maybe .01 second or something? Not to mention the ever present danger of having a spring loaded, razorsharp blade near your "junk" for long periods of time, somethings bound to go wrong there at some point!

Perhaps the pivot scew wasn't clean when it was re Loc Tited back together. Also, he may have used the wrong stuff.

The pivot screw must be clean and free of oil, grease, and the old Loc tite. I suggest using some brake cleaner. (same stuff as gun scrubber, but much cheaper) Get the non chlorinated stuff. Once clean, use the BLUE Loc Tite. Tighten the pivot where you want it, and leave it overnight.

Should be good to go . This is exactly what I do, and it hasn't failed me yet.

so has anyone had problems with the blade not being centered? will adjusting the pivot screw do anything for it? should I send it to BM?
