Benchmade 940-1 Lanyard Solutions?

I recently purchased a Benchmade 940-1. Unlike my 810 contego the pocket clip shape does not allow for cordage to be reliably tied to the clip. I have some extra pocket clips on order from Benchmade (940-1 stock clip, 810 deep carry clip, and 581 split arrow clip) and was planning to drill one of the replacement 940-1 clips. Are there any other solutions on the market? (knife is just too nice to drill handle scales). I've been looking high and low for pre-drilled clips or lanyard plates, does anyone know where I could find either one?

I do not have a 940-1, but I looked at some pics on line. From the pics, it looks like the knife uses stand offs instead of a back spacer. You could use the back spacer to attach your lanyard. Make sure you have clearance between the spacer and blade so you don't nick the lanyard cord. Tie the cord with a small fixed loop so there is very little slack to prevent the excess cord from getting cut or nicked by the blade. Maybe a double bowline or a Matthew Walker knot (with a loop instead of two strands) would make a good fixed loop.

If the clip screw holes go all the way through the scales, one could run some thinner cord through them to make a small loop which then can be used to tie a paracord lanyard to. Haven't used this on a knife, but I have used it on a flip phone that had a small hole for a tether. Braided mason's line (nylon or polyester) might be small enough. I have some assorted small diameter cordage, so if you can't find anything that is suitable let me know and I'll send you some.

Smaller cordage could also be used to make a small primary loop on a stand off to use a transition to paracord.

Look for knife making supply places, Alpha Knife Supply is one, and Knifekits.com is another. Both offer good products and service.

Somebody used to make an eyelet that attached to the pocket clip tapped holes on the opposite side of the handle from the pocket clip. The thing was made out of sheet metal and projected off the back of the knife. I haven't seen one lately.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've been using 550 paracord tied to the last standoff for about a week now and checking it for wear everyday before I go into the field. So far there has been minimal wear on the 550 (less than I expected). I have spare pocket clips coming to me from benchmade and will definitely be drilling one of them to create a proper lanyard tie point

You can put the extra clip on backwards using the two outside screw holes. Then shorten the clip and drill a hole in it for the cord attachment.
