Lockup:
How strong of a lockup does the new Benchmade 940-1 have? Does the introduction of carbon fiber handles reduce the effectiveness of the axis lock? I usually won't buy a knife unless it has zero play like my ZT 0550 or Manix 2.

Pocket Clip:
Is this clip similar to the painted clips like on the 710s that chip way too easily? Some pictures I have seen look like the clip is just painted while others look parkerized.

Weight:
While I like lightweight folders, I am concerned that the size:weight ratio of the 940-1 could be almost too light. I know this is pretty subjective but was hoping someone could provide some insight in this respect.

Thanks.

I don't push my 940-1 too hard because it is light/medium duty knife, but no issues with lockup.

Benchmade CS is very cool. They will take care of your pocket clip problems if you know what I mean.

IMO a pocket knife can never be too light as long as it well built.

benchmade has gone to and fro on the painted clips for some time now. a quick call to their cs and they'll send out whatever clip you want

The standard 940 uses aluminum, which is light to begin with. The balance is not very different, at least as far as I can detect from holding both side-by-side. The weight itself is very similar. The 940-1 does use actual standoffs over a backspacer of the 940/1/3, and this has the potential to change how the lock could feel, but I think the AXIS on the 940 and 940-1 are both satisfyingly smooth to me. It's more the texture of the handle that seems different to me more than the weight or lock or balance.

As noted, Benchmade will send you free clips like the lowrider clip or black oxide/parkarized clips (these are super durable). Aftermarket anodized titanium clips are pretty cheap too. The carbon fiber ones look cool but from my experience are not practical for actual usage.

As for blade play, if someone is 100% against blade play, cannot stand even the slightest bit, and wants a knife that 10 years from now will not have any blade play in the least, my opinion is that a Sebenza is probably the best knife for them because of how anal Chris Reeve is regarding fit/finish/tolerances, which is considered by many to be the best in the industry.
