Benchmade 940/3 vs. Stretch Carbon Fiber

I have both, and I am a much bigger fan of the Stretch II. It fits much better in hand, at least in my hand it does, I love the ZDP-189 steel, the carbon fiber is "peel ply" so there is more grip than just a metal handle. The "thumb" hole on the Spyderco is my preference over any opening method.

Edit to add: Forgot about Full Flat Grind, its my favorite.

Here's some Stretch candy

I like the full flat grind of my Stretch, for what that's worth. Benchmade makes a damn fine product, but not a full flat grind.

Toss up. Love 'em both.

They both have cool uncommon blade shapes. They 940 is just sexy...and tougher than it appears. The Spyderco is the perfect size with great ergos and the typical Spyderco quality.

The 943 is faster to deploy and undeploy. I can flip the blade open and shut. The only other lock I have that will do this is a William Henry Quest with a thumb button, but it is not ambidextrous like the Benchmade axis lock.

This seems like an odd pair to compare since they really don't fill the same niche. The 940 is more of a gentleman's folder despite the blade length. It's slim and quite elegant in the hand. The Stretch is more of a workhorse knife.

Both are great, but they seem to fill different needs IMO.

Same thing I was thinking, seems like two very different knives. But then again just about everything this OP has been posting has me scratching my head.

Well put... Its like comparing Apples to Oranges here....

Ah. I see how you are. One of those who thinks that his/her perspective is the only right one.

I was just asking a question. For me, these two knives will serve me the same purpose.

So scratch away.

I dont like lock back knives so that just narrows it down doesn't it. The 943 is alot slimmer, but doesn't have the grip like peel ply CF. I'm am partial to thumb stud myself but the hole is OK too. I have owned lots of 940\3 and have never owned (have handled them though) a stretch.

I am also trying to decide between these 2 knives. I'm a real noobie so can someone please explain the pros and cons about these knives? I'm looking for a light, comfortable, tough and reliable EDC.

Thanks.

All of those words describe a 94x series knife, and I would add smooth as well, but that might be covered under comfortable.

I haven't handled the Stretch 2, and am a BM fan.

I have both, and I consider the Stretch CF as quite a "dressed" looking knife, I think it is ok in the context of a bigger gentleman knife.

Of the two I prefer the Stretch 2. The CF feels nicer in the hand than the metal handle of the 940.
Both are really good cutters but be somewhat careful with the Stretch as it has a fine tip: great for slicing, but obviously more fragile than the 940's peculiar tip.
Do you have a preference of lockback vs Axis lock? I don't really, but it may help you decide.

I have too many knives, and the Stretch is one of my absolute favorites.

I Compare it with Highland Park single malt whisky. It's at first taste pretty neutral but soon you'll see that it's so incredibly well balanced that it's difficult to find something better.

While I prefer the feel of the Spyderco you can't go wrong with either of them.
