Handle color/materials. The 940 originally only came in green while the 942 was black. There have been so many variations since then its tough to really be able to tell the difference. Although it really doesn't matter as they are an outstanding knife (the only production knife I still have).

940-green handle,modified reverse tanto blade.
941-green handle,straight clip point blade.

942-black handle,modified reverse tanto blade.
943-black handle,straight clip point blade.
Handle material is aluminum on all models.

Hope that helps.A highly recommended knife!

Very nice knives, all of the 94x series. They're very light, and a bit small compared to BMs other offerings (also being thinner), but for an urbanite like me, who puts them through light use, they're just about perfect. I own a 943, and I love the knife. Very cool blade shape, nice handles, nothing bad about the knife at all.

Basically, all of the even numbers in the 94x series have reverse tantos, while the odds are clip points (which I hear are better, but it's personal preference). The 940&941 have green handles with purple-pinkish backspacers, while the 942&943 have a more 'tactical' black handle with a blued backspacer. Otherwise, they're identical.

941Ti-01 is the choice variant IMHO. Titanium and S30V. Yummy.

Of course if you can find a Carbon Fiber, D2 model like a 941D2CF, well, that would be a fine improvement on the awesome basic 94X designs like the 940 and 942 as well.
